Benitez sacked!

Thing is, at this stage he's spent shedloads at Spurs, but his general managerial style is to spend money on in form players until the club is basically bankrupt and run as fast as he can before the club actually flops.

If Spurs cease to back his transfer dealings, which is fairly likely as the club is stable, Redknapps the kind of completely stupid, non future thinking idiot who will want to buy 50million of extra players to cope with a long run in the CL for years on end, which could ruin the club(because of those 50mil player will want 300-500k a week in wages between them maybe, 16-26mil a year maybe) and if they lose CL football, which is highly likely, then they'll be paying huge wages and not making enough money.

Now Liverpool, Harry Redknapp could negotiate for full control of transfers, a commitment to put in x amount of funds(which is not uncommon for new managers at all) and probably cashing in on Gerrard and Torres will free up a shedload of transfer funds.

Redknapp thrives on transfers, deals and those are two things he's unlikely to get at Spurs from now on.

Meh, I still can't really see it happening, but Redknapp has a habit of jumping ship before he can "fail" , Spurs are fairly likely to not go far in the CL< maybe not even qualify for the group stages, and if they do, they'll have a much harder and longer season than normal which will likely effect their league position. Potentially end of next season Liverpool could be in the champs league and Spurs could be a team embarassed in Europe, dropped down several places in the league and Redknapp thought of as just not good enough for Europe.

Some seriously ****ing **** journalism today. Few of the papers reporting that Liverpool want Moyes, Dalgelish has specifically singled out Moyes. What utter ****, who ever thought it would be a good idea to print that nonsense needs their head seeing to. Absolute **** story telling.

Money doesn't buy success; what does is a good youth setup and a long term manager.
Benitez was at the club for 6 years and was gradually building a fantastic youth setup. Even though he only had full control for about a year he had already signed some of Europes top coaches and scouts including half of Barcelonas youth team staff.

Tony Barrett's reporting that Dalglish's going to step-down from his role in finding a new manager so that he can be considered for the job himself.

If as expected and the club either can't or are unwilling to make a serious long-term appointment, then Dalglish may be the best possible candidate. Much better than the likes of Hodgson, O'Neil, Redknapp and Hughes anyway.

Thought this was the best place to put this story, good on him. :)

THE ECHO can exclusively reveal that Rafa Benitez today donated £96,000 to the Hillsborough Family Support Group as he gets set to leave Merseyside.

The former Liverpool FC boss, who was today confirmed as the new manager at Inter Milan, handed over the cheque to Margaret Aspinall, chairwoman of the HFSG, as the rest of the committee watched on this afternoon.

In a low key visit to the group's office, Benitez wished the group well and told them he hoped they would get the justice and the truth they are campaigning for.

Mrs Aspinall said: "It was just nice to know that he wanted to see us before he went."

0.016% or 0.032% of his final payout depending on where you read it ;)

But £96,000 is £96,000 - a lot of money. Nice gesture from what appears to be a nice man

People always laugh when i say this, and i've been saying it for years.. John Aldridge

Liverpool through and through, and most certainly wouldn't put up with all the crap like Lucas, Babel and all them other mupets.

Just because Liverpool think they are a big club doesn't mean they have to go for a big manager. ;)

Yeah good on him but he's still an idiot.

I can't believe he's walked in to the Inter job. Imagine playing under Mourinho and then Rafa strolls in to the job. :(

I can believe it and I hope he rams that down your throat by being successful at Inter.

I was never fortunate enough to meet Rafa but enjoyed reading the following on an LFC forum frequented mostly by LFC fans who are clued up enough to look into things for themselves and ignore the shambolic biased media that exists in this country.

"The Day We Met Rafa" (by an SOS member)

'I was lucky enough to meet him with the SOS delegation in the Autumn of 2008. We were with him for 4 hours and it was a brilliant show of natural enthusiasm and determination. He went over everything from player sales to the weakness of the board and the lack of vision which most on here already know about. He was determined to end what he saw as the 'bullying' of Liverpool FC by Fergie & his allies in management and we all know who they are! He said he couldn't believe how weak our club was when it came to standing up for themselves against the Premiership heavyweights who bullied refs/officials The FA and The Premier League hence his attack on Fergie some months later.

He wanted the club to be together and for the Academy to be run professionally. He wanted a small 5000 seater stand built at the Academy so the fans could be welcomed and watch youth team games like they did at Real. He said he had requested this in the first year and he was still waiting for action, it was eating away at him he would have built that stand himself you could see it in his eyes. It was not an act he loved the club and he loved the fans!

It was an indication of the way the different departments were not working together and he had a dream of a club all pulling in the same direction fighting the same cause to make Liverppol FC great again and thats obviously why he fought so hard to get overall control of the Academy in his contract. He went through all the players we missed out on due to inertia and incompetence and you could not fail to be impressed by his desire and determination for Liverpool FC to succeed. He said we might win the League that year (which we nearly) did of course but we would need all the luck we could get because we were fighting against the odds. He went through everything and even did impressions of people at the club pretending to talk into a mobile acting out what had happened when the Malouda deal was going pear shaped when he was on holiday and he was talking on his mobile in the swimming pool and Montse was telling him to relax. He even did press ups in front of us pretending to talk into a mobile, that was when he was in the gym and found out all the money had been spent on a player right down on his wish list so there was none left for Barry his No 1 priority.

When talking about players he said 'boys you've got to remember they are all greedy', 'except for Carra' someone replied, 'no I can assure you, he is as well' we all burst out laughing.

It was funny, inspiring and heartfelt almost like a one man play, and it will live in my memory forever, not bad for an ice cold detached manager.

And for all those who wrote about his ice cold character maybe he just thought you were pricks!

Thanks for the good times Rafa stabbed in the back by Tory dogs with no idea about football!
Our Day Will Come!

I appreciate that this is just a rumour at the moment but it seems that a significant amount of internet momentum is suggesting that Manuel Pellegrini is on the verge of becoming the new manager.

I am pessimistic about this but believe this to be the best we can hope for in our current situation.

I'd be more than happy to take Pellegrini. Respected through-out Spain and Europe. I still feel that Roy would be the correct choice though.

Our spell in the top 4 has ended and I doubt we'll get it back anytime soon but going for a manager like Roy would indicate we're settling for mediocrity without even putting up a fight.

He may well getting you playing decent football though with little resource. (results mainly)

I had this convo with a Scouse friend :/ tonight in the pub, Dalgleish did **** all with Liverpool when he had a decent team, he will do even worse with the current crop.

Dalglish won the league three times, runners up in the league twice and FA cup twice. Granted, the double winning side he inherited but he was still the manager. They were banned from Europe so couldn't compete there but they would have walked that as well. The team that contained Barnes, Beardsley and Aldridge were an absolute joy to watch.

That said, I wouldn't have him anywhere near Liverpool as a manager. He is a legend and best kept that way.

Give me Steve McLaren this minute!
