Benitez sacked!

I'd get Toshack in on a temp basis, he knows the spanish game, so could placate the spaniards a bit, and he will please the fans aswell

MoN would be mad to join Liverpool now, why leave a secure job with a club progressing steadily for a club in turmoil with an uncertain future.

Well if paper talk over the last year is to be believed his job isn't 100% secure; also for all their 'steady progression' Villa have finished in the same league position for the past 3 seasons. In Europe they've had multiple bites at the cherry and still done absolutely nothing. I just think maybe he has taken them as far as he can.

Meanwhile only a year ago Liverpool finished with 86pts and the best goal difference in the league. They've had a bad season (still only 1pt behind Villa!) and some off-the-field troubles, but at the end of the day, it's Liverpool FC. They are a bigger club than Villa and are arguably a better long-term prospect for a manager assuming the financial uncertainty is resolved. One would imagine he could command a higher salary there regardless.

Of course for the best part of a decade it has supposedly been 'common knowledge' that MON has been holding out / pencilled in for the MU job when Fergie retires, but I've never been 100% convinced.

Agreed, really good and balanced too. Is just a shame that many will choose to ignore it and continue to believe that it was all his fault!

Its an article that is just as one sided as those written by his detractors.

How many trophies did Liverpool win under Houlliers management?
and what were their league finishes?

Hiddink's agent has distanced him from the job, hardly surprising really given that they've already turned down Inter Milan. Similar re: Rijkaard.

Mark Hughes supposedly is in contention, presumably on account of the fact that he would be free, rather than on ability.

Pellegrini might be a decent outside bet I guess, built a good reputation at Villerreal and is out of contract. The strong Spanish contingent at Anfield might welcome another native speaker.

I think you will find there will be a very large move away from anything spanish, be it backroom staff or players.

Masch future uncertain.

I kinda hope he gets sold tbh :( as long as the price is given back 100% to re-invest.
As a midfielder goes hes just too limited. Phenominal at what he does, but what he does isnt (Shouldnt ..) be required for the majority of games played in the PL.
30m+ could go a long way towards a decent attacking player + a good young CM option like Banega. Considering Gerrard (assuming he stays :( ) is going to have to 're-invent' himself as a deep lying playmaker style player if he wants to prolong his stay as a starting 11 candidate .. age catches up with everyone.
