Benitez sacked!

As said in the other larger thread he'd be a fool to walk for £3m when he's owed £16m. Nothing concrete yet though from a reputable newsource, who themselves are only saying he's been offered the smaller amount of money.

On the other hand, if he has a job lined up already, perhaps £3m is more than he get if he simply walked...

I wonder who the owners have got lined up to replace him? You've got to assume they wouldn't offer him this deal without something fairly solid in the works, especially after what's been said in the last couple of weeks about him looking almost definite to stay. It's a pretty big turnaround...

It's very simple. Whether Benitez gets £1m or £100m, this will not effect the football club.

If Benitez goes now then the club will be in a state of limbo. No manager in their right mind would want to take over and we will end up with either a yes man on big money or a caretaker until the club is sold. The likely hood of Torres, Masch, Reina et al leaving will go from a possibility to a probability and none (or very little anyway) of that money will be reinvested in the squad (I doubt the club would give it to a permanent manager let alone a stop gap). That's the short-term

The long-term is the club is getting sold (touch wood) and these two cancers and hopefully the entire board will all be gone. Whatever pay-off Benitez gets will have no effect on the club whatsoever, it will only effect how much money the two Americans walk away with when they leave as any offer for the club will take into acount the current balance sheet.

I've said previously that if Benitez's future was based on footballing reasons only then he deserves to go after what has been a disaster of a season but the situation we're in is far more complicated. Benitez going before the club is sold will leave us in big trouble.

edit: And I didn't say Benitez was bigger than the club. The club will go on no matter what, but his future is pivotal to the short-term future of the club.

I hope Rotty bans the lot of you!

edit: and this stinks of the club leaking these reports in the hope that Benitez will take the ~£3m and not hold out for the full amount.

Isn't that GOOD business for a change, frankly in any other career contract, yes he has one but he would have been deemed to have not forfilled what was expected of him and he probably could get fired for poor performance and not get the full amount.

Yes but theres a catch 22 here isn't there, hold on till they have no choice but fire him and get the full £16mil, but Juve/Inter/whoever else is interested might decide its taken to long and appoint someone else, someone cheaper or someone whose less difficult to get. LIkewise screwing your old team for every cent possible won't exactly make prospective employer happier they are getting you.

While the opposite is possible, Benitez decides to quit, give up the right to any pay off but go sign up at Inter/wherever right now without any problems and without making him look like a money grabbing little git.

Liverpool are being smart, giving him a quick out with a small pay off that gets it over and done with and leaves him free to sort out terms with any club interested before its too late.

Souness or Dagleish hmmmmmm.

As much as I think he's a fat useless spanish Gerrard Houiller they really are not going to get anyone in better. They don't have enough money to do anything now except keep employing and sacking managers after 12 months.

I feel for the Liverpool fans, they don't deserve the club that Liverpool has been turned into from the various chairmen and owners.

And that'd be why he's probably waiting. It'd be interesting to see who they possibly could get, or if they get anybody at all in the near future. Sammy Lee isn't a bad guy, and I don't think managers are bound by the player transfer window.

As others have pointed out above though, it's a very unattractive job atm. With obvious player unrest and whatever's going on behind the scenes.

Aye, there is the danger that which ever Italian club may change its mind, however he's of a particular few who have Champion's League experience and are supposedly obtainable.

That is true, saying that screwing your previous employer will not make you that attractive, however, this is football we're talking about. They're all mercenaries these days really, I doubt it bothers the Italian club - heck, they probably understand the delay. As said above, £3m and £16m is a big difference.

Yes he has a contract which is signed by both sides not just him. If that was the case then those conditions would have been put into the contract if liverpool wanted this. But they didnt...

Who in their right mind gives a football manager a 5 year contract? One of the few jobs where if you do a bad job you still get paid either way. 3 Years maybe but 5 years is asking for trouble.

I hardly think it would ruin the club if they had to pay up the full amount.

I wonder what they will do next? Sell Gerard and Torres and then run off with the money lol

No manager in their right mind would go anywhere near us until the club is sold. Equally I can't see the current board wanting to make a long-term appointment incase it proved a stumbling block in any sale too.

Nah, Liverpool will get a decent manager in no time at all. It's still a huge club, despite current financial worries...

Sorry but you're living in a dreamworld if you think a decent manager would take the job as our manager right now.

Anybody taking over could find themselves out of a job in 3 months, 6 months or a years time when the club is finally sold. Not to mention the total lack of clarity throughout the club, from how much money is available to simply who's running the club.

That's just from the managers perspective, would the cub make a long-term appointment before the sale? I doubt it as a new owner would want to make his own appointment.

Im glad he has gone for various reasons but the owners need to be gone asap, What new manager we get who knows but i think be more likely Dalglish will take over for awhile until some one else is found as others have said for finacial reasons i dont think we will attract any known big managers.

Worry is now should we lose Gerrard or Torres id say were massivly fubard i know two men dont make a team but when you consider just how bad we were this year with out torres especially its dire >.<

On a plus side should some one come in like dalglish for awhile which is what i think will happen he may be able to convice them to stay or even get playersl ike Benayoun/Riera to decide to commit as rafa didnt handle them two players well imo

Why are you convinced Torres et al will leave now? I remember reading in the 'gutter press' that they wanted him to leave and if he stayed they would go.

Really need to get the club sold now.

In some ways the manager leaving will facilitate the sale of the club, as the new owner will have free reign to appoint someone of his own choosing, I actually believe being saddled with a potential 4 years of Benitez if you were a buyer for the club would be a big turn-off, but that's just a bigoted gooner's view :D

However, people are right, if Benitez goes now, the sale process must reach a swift conclusion. If there's still no new owner in place by the end of the World Cup for the 3 weeks of transfer market madness that will certainly follow it, then Liverpool will be at a huge disadvantage for next season. A takeover is never a quick process though, and even worse in the current economic climate. This is the last thing you need in a transfer window... tough times for Liverpool fans.

But ultimately wasn't it Dalglish that started off this sorry mess ? I think it was Baz who mentioned it ?
