Benitez sacked!

yep, that's why I only get my news from there, it's proper reporting rather than the sensationalist nonsense spewed by the Tabs and even Sky to an extent...

Edit: as for the blogs/gossip websites, you may as well read horoscopes!

But ultimately wasn't it Dalglish that started off this sorry mess ? I think it was Baz who mentioned it ?

I think thats still a matter of opinion. Ultimately Dalglish did the double for us and was the last manager to get us the league title. (and then also won the title with Blackburn, as well as finishing 2nd with Newcastle).

Though I wouldnt want him as a long term successor, I think he could certainly do the job as an interim manager.

No manager in their right mind would go anywhere near us until the club is sold. Equally I can't see the current board wanting to make a long-term appointment incase it proved a stumbling block in any sale too.

You do realise 99.9999% of managers out there, DON'T win things, managers joined, Hull, Bolton, Pompie, infact a very good manager took over a very very troubled Pompie.

Its a JOB, and it pays MILLIONS a year, and managers life being paid.

Do you really think no one would want the job if Liverpool were 3rd bottom in League 2? Of course they will, because a jobs a job.

7th in "the best league in the world", is something the top few managers would relish.

Some managers would even see Liverpool as a BIGGER challenge and a more enticing job, than going to manage Chelsea or Barca(though few would go to Pool over Barca, just for the location more than anything :p ).

You know how some people manage the easiest team in the world in Championship manager, and some people take the most difficult job because its harder and more exciting, the same is true in the real world.

If you don't think Prem league, european football, a good challenge, potentially a huge transfer warchest if you cash in on some overpriced players and lets not forget, multiple MILLIONS a year in wages can entice a good manager, you're out of your mind, completely out of your mind.

I don't want to put words in BaZ's mouth, but I think the point he was making is that no top manager would want the job under the current owners whilst they are trying to sell up... Once there is a new board/chairman in place of course the Liverpool job will remain as one of the more highly regarded positions in world football.

Looks like its a £4mill payoff and Benitez is gone...take it with a pinch of salt as ive just read it from the daily fail...also rumours are that Inter will go for Gerrard, Torres and Mascherano.

Without them, Liverpool will slip far beyond Spurs, City, Villa and probably Everton if they don't have much in the way of transfer funds

Exactly and thats why i said take it with a pinch of salt...a big one mind you:p

If liverpool loses those 3 players...thats just bad news for them and i cant see them getting back into Europe anytime soon.

I believe Dalglish started the downturn, he inherited a great team and while he haqd a good start on the back of 3 big signings it went gradually downhill resulting in him resigning when he realsied the way things were going

That has to be one of the most ridiculous things I've read. To suggest Dalglish started the downturn and in some way is responsible for where the club currently is now 20 years on. Did you expect Liverpool to just keep on winning everything in sight until present day? I think you underestimate the effect the Hillsborough disaster had on him. Regardless, he has a pretty good record considering English clubs were banned from European competition during his time at Liverpool:

1986 - 1st & F.A. Cup
1987 - 2nd & League Cup runners up
1988 - 1st & F.A. Cup runners up
1989 - 2nd & F.A. Cup
1990 - 1st
1991 - 2nd

I'm still not convinced that Torres, Gerrard, Masch etc will leave now Rafa is possibly on his way out.

Indeed...I could foresee all three of those staying for at least 1 more year now to see how things turn out. Of the three I would think the most likely to move would be Gerrard, but I really do think that Rafa going will have a big effect on players like that remaining.

Much as I enjoy liverpool falling apart by its own actions, getting rid of Benitez in this fashion, and bringing in the suggested management team, for the reasons and length of time suggested, is going to be a complete and total disaster both in the short and Long term.

"It is very sad for me to announce that I will no longer be manager of Liverpool FC. I would like to thank all of the staff and players for their efforts.

"I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager.

"Thank you so much once more and always remember: You'll never walk alone."

Gutted. :(
