BenQ G2420HDBL (LED Backlit) or BenQ G2420HD

xe-cute maybe you should try calibrating it for your needs first before posting your comments, it takes couple seconds to adjust height so 'field of view' is v good, colours ARE sharp & yes brightness out of the box IS set too high but with a little adjustment it's fine, NO eye strain (maybe you should go to specsavers?)

Don't patronize me.

I know how to set the height of a monitor and calibrate one.

As for the specsavers joke, well you'll have to visit one yourself after using this monitor for any prolonged period of time.

My eyes are very good and I can tell you now this monitor was hugely disappointing. No good at all for Web Design or Photography editing in Photoshop. It was much better for gaming, but still not up to a decent enough quality for my liking.

Even with the monitor dead centre to my head and at arms reach the colour & brightness horizontal banding is the worst I have ever experienced. Just bop your head up and down for extreme shifting due to viewing angle. Even keeping your head completely still with a single colour on screen it changes colour depth/richness/uniformity as it goes to the edges.

The only good thing about this monitor is the price. If you don't mind inaccurate washed out colours and can stand a bright monitor (even on low settings) than this monitor will be fine.

However for more delicate work or those with sensitive eyes than look elsewhere.

I've had this monitor (LED) for about 3 weeks now and I will also say that it does take a lot of setting up to get it right! Out of the box is way to bright. The default options like photo, movie are good but it all comes down to what your using the monitor for. For an all rounder those default settings are useless.

To get mine right for mainly video, photo, web design (lots of text) I used the user setting and had to play about with the ATI control to get it right. Mainly contrast and brightness with a very slight tweak on gamma levels. It took me almost 1 week to get it right and now im happy with it.

All in all the monitor is very good. Its clear, the text display is superb and the colours are bright. Im not that impressed by its performance in photoshop however it does the job. I think It may just need a little more setting up for use in this area. :) for the money its a nice screen. My next upgrade will be for a while now so this will do until then. :)

Very pleased with the monitor. Looks good, handles motion fine and is a good size, I gave it a quick test with Crysis and just normal desktop use.
Yes the colours can changed a bit if you move your head around, but you don't do that.
Glare doesn't seem to be a problem on it either.

Will have to play with the settings (as everyone does), but over all it's a great monitor for the price.

In two minds about this.

Some say its great and as above make it sound dreadful :/

I was the same as well but took the plunge and I'm glad I bought it.

Nothing is perfect. The only negative things I can say is that is it a little brighter in the middle than the corners of the screen but it's not a massive difference. Perhaps this might be normal thing for these monitors (someone who is more knowledgeable might be more helpful regarding this). Viewing angles is not the best but like the poster above said, you don't move your head about.

As reported by many people, the default settings are very bright and it might take while to tweak and adjust to your perfect settings, using a combination of the lcd controls and your graphics card colour settings.

Other than that, I can say nothing else bad (well not really bad :D) about it and the pros definitely outweigh the cons.

i bought the BenQ G2420HDBE (none led) from another website, the monitor only has dvi & vga ports i have my Ps3 connected using 1m hdmi cable & the grey dvi to hdmi adaptor which came with my old ati graphics card & image quality is amazing (do not use hdmi to dvi cable picture quality is awful),my PC is connected to the vga port & image Q is amazing too,i have compared vga to dvi when playing mw2 pc & there is no difference. this is by far the best monitor i've ever bought & surprisingly its the cheapest one too. gotta love BENQ ;)

Don't let me put you off.

For the price it is a good monitor specification wise.

However, if you are a little fussy and have sensitive eyes like me than I'd say it is definitely worth saving up a bit more cash.

If you are stuck firmly on a budget for spending than I don't think there is another monitor for the same price any better (only go with a different monitor for same price if you have sensitive eyes to light/strain - otherwise get this one).

It is pin sharp and the contrast ratio is so high you can see very subtle detail. I enjoyed this monitor the most for movies as the flaws could not be seen. It was second best in games where only eye fatigue would kick in for me after some time.

It was when it came to Photoshop and web design that I had to throw 'the towel in' as the color reproduction was so different to most monitors and not uniformed that I Couldn't make any logical judgement calls/decisions in my design aspects. I simply was not seeing the same portrayal of my work that 99.9% of others would.

If you are just gaming and watching movies and have never had a problem with your eyes being sensitive or strained than this monitor should be fine. Especially if you're young (although it may help in burning out your retinas early).

I still stand by my 1st rather harsh post though as I really was shocked when I 1st got the monitor as I thought it would be perfect and also by majority liking it so much it made it worse. At least now you can expect what will arrive and not thinking its completely perfect due to the over-hype.

Well the thing is my 2nd display is actually my samsung TV which I use for all my movies/tv shows.

My pc monitor is only really used for IRC/Web and games. I dont do any PS work so cant see it beign that much of a problem.

If I was to save up a bit more what would you go for instead?

If you save up a bit more I'd recommend the Samsung XL2370, which is quite frankly the best TN panel I have come across (and I've come across many). The vibrant punchy image and smooth gradients it produces in games is just fantastic and the display itself is one of the most responsive 60Hz panels (in real terms) available at the moment. Samsung have also launched the PX2370 which is similar but with a different aesthetic and slightly higher pricetag. The upcoming BX series will include a 24 incher as well so I'd look out for that.

Before this monitor I was using a Samsung XL2370 and it is an extremely impressive monitor but due to moving and change of set up I really needed something I could use a VESA desk clamp stand with so after reading and phoning around I went for the Benq. Now its a great monitor considering the price but the difference between this and the panel in the Samsung is huge. I have tried calibration discs etc but I just can't settle for what i'm seeing. I just wish more monitors had VESA fittings. So all in all a great monitor for the price but the Samsung has spoilt me a little so now im stuck what to buy. I'm going to sell this one on though and hope I can get something else soon from OCUK as the quality of their service for me is always great. Any suggestons are welcome.

Do I have a problem?

Been playing with the Benq over the weekend and I have now noticed a weird almost Plamsa TV like burning. I ran Dead Pixel Tester, looked at all the various patterns etc, noticed after going to checkerboard and illusion that the images of those patterns were still there when I switched back to solid. I tried it several times and asked my partner to confirm that I was not seeing things. I then ran DPT on my laptop and then with my Samsung monitor plugged in and nothing. Straight back to a blank screen. I then created a word doc, black background with a large white "S" in the middle and upon immediatley loading something which has a blank screeen, say CODMW2, the few moments when the screen goes blank you can still still the "S" looking like the old plamsa burn used to. Is this normal for the Benq? I am using Standard mode, sharpness set to 3, 40 Brightness and 60 Contrast. I have tried dropping both contrast and brightness to minimum and it stays. Using the suppied colour profile that came with the Monitor on DVI. And suggestions?

Update: I have now noticed my wallpaper is still visible as a ghostly artefact through a plain back screen in paint. If I then simulate "Erasing" the ghosting with the cursor, it starts to breakup. A little like on the old plasma tv's, if you had a slight burn you could go to an empty station and the "snow" would normally clear it for you.

Had mine about a week now. Have played with the settings a bit, but not loads.
Have to say I'm very happy with it, good for everything I'd use it for (games, general desktop use etc). Would say if you do a lot of photo editing or web designing to go for another screen though...but then again I don't know what you could get like that for the same price.
Here is just a general picture of my desktop.

Camera isn't the best, and neither are my photo skills, but it still looks great. Oh and it isn't on a wonk, that was me.

Got mine today, love it! Moving up from a 19" square and an 18.5" widescreen this is just brill. Colours as far as im aware are great, done the windows 7 callibration and its all good. Perfect for the price!
