BenQ G2420HDBL (LED Backlit) or BenQ G2420HD

damn it, cant wait for the acer 120hz any longer, one of these benq's will make me just as happy im sure as the peeps in this thread love them

Is it possible to go into the shop, see one and say "I'll buy that specific one because I can see that it doesn't have any dead pixels?"

Dead pixels are the main thing putting me off moving from CRT to LCD. Several monitors at work have dead pixels and it annoys the hell out of me even though I don't actually use them. It would blight my PC fun if my own monitor had dead pixels.

Good god, I used to hear that a lot 5 or 6 years ago, I thought everyone had gotten over that now. The chances are it'll be fine, but you can always return it under the DSR (Distance Selling Regulations) if you want to, you have 7 days from when you receive it to do that. However if you go into the shop and buy it, you can't do that.

They don't display anything in the shop anyway, it's basically a counter in a little room at the front of a warehouse.

Also, with respect, this is a £150 monitor, not a £500 one, it's very cheap indeed for what you get ...so don't worry about it. You could resell if it you wanted to I imagine without losing too much money. This monitor is great for what it costs, but in the grand scheme it isn't amazing really, remember it's a £150 TN display ...it isn't going to be ground breaking.

Is there any input lag on the monitors? Was looking at the BenQ G2220HD but now I've seen these and they're only a bit more expensive. Currently using a 5:4 17 inch so both would be a nice upgrade.

Is the stand height adjustable? If not, would somebody be able to measure the distance from the desk to the start of the screen? Thanks.

Good god, I used to hear that a lot 5 or 6 years ago, I thought everyone had gotten over that now.

Please accept my most humble apologies for not being over disliking the idea of buying a monitor that is broken in a particularly annoying way. It's such a dreadful failure of mine.

I'm aware that the DSR gives far more power to customers than buying in a physical shop does, but I would prefer to not to need it. Hence my question.

I haven't been to the new shop, so I didn't know it had even less on display than the old shop.

If you give me £150, I won't worry about it. It's not a trivial sum to me.

I don't consider it ground breaking for a monitor to work fully. That was what I was posting about - it working fully. I don't consider a monitor with annoying dots permanently on the display to be working fully.

Well I guess when the same things come up so often, I just get sick of it. Silly things like the issue of dead pixels, we all know they can happen, and usually the best way to deal with this is to use the DSR, since most manufactures pixel policies aren't that good.

I am not saying £150 is a trivial sum exactly, but for what you are getting, it is really. It is not a lot of money for a monitor, it's too cheap to expect perfection, put it that way. I'm not saying I agree with that, I am saying that is the way it is.

I would prefer dead pixels were guaranteed not to happen as well, but they do, and I wish we could get fantastic monitors that were perfect in every way for £150, but we can't ...hell there is something to complain about with just about every monitor on the market today if you look hard enough. I think possibly then nearest to actually being 100% is the Dell 2209WA.

Hi guys,

I am owner of g2420hdbl too :) I wonder what settings you all have?

It looks to me, compared to my previus Asus VH226h LCD, that colors in Standard and sRGB presets are a bit washed-out.

Right now I am using Movie preset with Brightnes 55 and Contrast 65. I have PowerColor 5850 connected via DVI cabel and I have to confirm that picture quality is much better then on Asus with this settings.

Could you please post your settings or give me a tip on a good color calibration utility. I have tried plenty of freeware stuff and I wonder if there is anything really good.

For any potencial buyer: go for it! Price/performance ratio is excellent.

Thanks!

Just ordered the led version and it should be delivered tomorrow. Going to dual monitor with my current 20" dell and then maybe get another one of these. Starting to worry I won't fit them on my desk though lol.

Just wondered if anyone uses one of these for their xbox with a vga cable? What's the picture like?

Hello everybody,

I'm considering buying the LED one, all the good reviews in this thread about the good image quality have made me confident enough to buy it.
But I've been also looking at the HannsG HH251hp and I'm still not sure, as this one brings 2xHDMI plus 0,6" extra. My question is: is the difference in image quality over the HannsG big enough to make up for the (small) size difference and HDMI?

Thanks

P.S.: Both are same price, but with the Hanns I would have to pay delivery.

Edit: Here's a review of the Hanns, just to give some info: http://bit.ly/aunooG
