BenQ XL2730Z Freesync Owners Thread

It fits just, good job I didn't go 21:9 dont think I will be getting much use out of the built in head phone stand (comes out of the left side of the monitor). Oh well printer will have to do for now.

haha wow, a very tight fit! an inch either would would have messed it up :p

Can't wait to hear what your impressions are when you give Freesync a go.

Nah, it's a win in my eyes mate, gsync on the ROG Swift works lower than 40 fps and I can see some new games easily dipping below that. That and the fact there's still no set date on crossfire freesync drivers and some games weren't making proper use of the 295x2, it was practically a single card in some titles.

Titan X will be going under water if I can't tame it on air :D

Enjoy being locked to a single propriety solution.

I really am tempted by this monitor but the whole being locked to one vendor is meeeeh.

Im also a little concerned about ghosting reports on this monitor, and the minimum frame rate that FreeSync works on the monitor is quite high (40 fps, Right?) I only have a single 290 so frames dipping into 40 FPS is quite realistic and even very common in some games (like arma 3).

The positives are quite obvious, but for £500 there are a few negatives. Do the positives heavily outweigh the negatives?

no ghosting at all, I've not experienced any, gaming is flawless, colours are great, loads of options in the menus, would spend £500 again on this monitor. Totally in love with it.

With Freesync/G-Sync or not, below 40FPS feels rough. But above 40fps with Freesync/G-Sync feels amazing.

Plus with Arma 3, its very CPU intensive. You will have a rough gaming experience regardless of you setup (GPU, Monitor etc).

Mine arrived today and it's absolutely stunning! However, out the box the panel looks as if it's greasy or has fluid on it. I can't think of how to describe it, but when I dab some water on my other matte TN it looks similar-any suggestions as to what this could be?

If you have cleaned the screen (with a damp microfiber cloth, preferably with a screen cleaning solution if you have one) and this persists then it is likely the matte screen surface. It is quite high-haze ('thick' or 'grainy' as some would describe it) on this and similar monitors and that can give the image an appearance of something being 'smeared' over the screen. Do you find this more noticeable on white or particularly light colours? Perhaps if you move this window across the screen for example?

I tried cleaning it, but it remains looking 'smeared' with something. When i'm playing games it's not noticeable at all, but on light colours(e.g. desktop or white backgrounds such as reddit and skype etc) it's very noticeable-like you said.

Bah! :(

I hate grainy finishes. A lot of people and even some so called reviewers just don't get how important the anti-glare coating is and the impact it has on image quality!

Hopefully ASUS's upcoming IPS 144HZ screen has a very good AG coating although I think most, if not all of their monitors are usually on the grainy side of things???

That would have been more waiting around for the 980ti, can't see me swapping when it's released unless it's better than the Titan X by a noticeable amount, I thought about 980 SLI but I'm done with dual GPU setups for now.

Did you get the rog ? How does it compare?

I couldn't agree more. The MG279Q will be using an AHVA panel, and so far all AHVA panels have used a rather 'good' anti-glare surface. Likely the same as the Acer XB270HU.

The ASUS PB278Q, MX299Q and others which use 2560 x 1440 or 'UltraWide' PLS/AHVA/IPS panels have good screen surfaces. So do their 'AMVA+' VA models (VN279Q etc.) It is specified by the panel manufacturer rather than the monitor manufacturer.

I prefer it, has less options than the BenQ but the out of the box colours are already very good so you don't need to make a load of tweaks to get it right. The monitor itself feels more premium, I like the thinner bezel and the stand.
I never got to use freesync so can't really compare but GSYNC is awesome even when it drops into the 20's.

Why would anyone let frame rate drop that low? I would sooner drop resolution down or settings that let my frame rate drop below 60fps never mind sub 30fps range or lower.

Because it still runs smooth and in single player games I like having eye candy as high as possible. Don't be mad just because your BenQ can only make 40fps feel smooth ;)

The only game that's actually dropped that low so far though is Metro LL with 4xSSAA.

Am not mad, we have clearly different standards.. and you do know, I can have freesync switch off if it does drop that low and still keep smooth frame rate but with a trade off = screen tear.. But again I aim for 60+ if I cant keep that then I upgrade if Upgrade isnt the option I reduce settings.

It's not about having different standards, GSYNC works that low so it still runs smooth, don't kid yourself that yours runs smooth in the 20fps range with FREESYNC off, that's obviously BS.

I don't need to aim for 60+ in single player games when I can max the details and 30 fps still feels like 60...

What do you mean?

If you're asking whether the XL2730Z is limited to 40fps minimum for freesync to work then yes (so far anyway).
