BenQ XL2730Z Freesync Owners Thread

I might wait until the 390x surfaces, will see what the crack is then mate.

Yeah it is definitely wise to wait for the 390x. I think that 390x is going to be pretty special considering what nvidia have done and even if it sucks, it should (hopefully) reduce prices of the 980ti a bit further :D

it cannot be downloaded or updated by the user at this time.

that was never intended to be updated so i really doubt it has been included. The new firmware is to address the FreeSync /AMD bug only as far as i know

Thank you.
So blur reduction strobing isn't fixed at 100hz (as per your earlier tests?)

I know this sounds like a...um....bribe....but could you do me a very big favor?

I know its a lot to ask
but can you ask them to implement the <100 hz refresh rate "Single strobe" option that was in all of their previous Z series? The lack of single strobe is the only reason I haven't bought this monitor to upgrade from my XL2720Z. I don't even think Benq realizes that their previous monitors' ability to strobe at 60 to 144 hz refresh rates in 1 hz increments was a VERY big selling point (and I've recommended Benq monitors to anyone who asks about them, just because of their blur reduction).

It doen't make sense that they would go backwards on a tech that no one else has. (no other monitor is capable of single strobing at 60 to 144 hz, besides CRT screens).

I play call of duty, and if the COD I am playing is capped at 91 fps, if I can not strobe at 91 hz refresh rate, then I won't buy a monitor. This is what my 2720Z can do. Yes, the ROG Swift can ULMB at 85hz, but I am using an AMD Card....

At this point, if my XL2720Z broke and was unable to be RMA'd for some reason, I would buy another XL2720Z. That's just how powerful being able to single strobe at 60hz and 1hz increments is.
(it can even single strobe at 50 and 51 hz, with some difficulty; 50hz @ 1360 VT only (Default VT will overdrive the backlight and reset the monitor without strobe activating), 51 hz @ 1502 VT)
I tried to send you a PM but there was no pm link.
You have my email if you want to contact me, though :)

How much it going to cost us? am not sure if I want to be sending it back tbh.. The main reason am not even sure what am missing?

Can anyone here that understands AMA setting tell me what I will gain if it was working? Keep in mind I also switched this off in my last BenQ screen.

Headache

So how long does it take BenQ to respond to a Warranty and Service request? I have a ticket number from their automated reply but nothing else as yet....request went in early last night

Might just give this update a miss tbh. Not sure I can be bothered. Not that I have even seen freesync yet...

FreeSync is great I love it, but I want it to work correctly with AMA. There is nowt wrong with wanting it to be the best it can be, after all, thats why I purchased it in the first place. ;)

Well am returning mine because i have only had it 10 days benq is sending me a new montior to me then picking this one up with the updated firmware on new montior because its covered under 21 days DOA.

I purchased it on March 14th Jason. When I filled out the form for RMA I just explained that I wanted to return the monitor for a firmware update because of the FreeSync AMA bug. Sent them along my proof of purchase and the RMA was generated. Spoke to a lady at BenQ today about DPD coming to collect, she never mentioned any cost and I didn't ask.

Ok cheers for the info Skel:) please would u let us know if when DPD trun up you are asked to pay any postage:) , and if not then i think i too will contact BenQ and start the RMA process , and hopefully i too may get free return ,, would be nice as this is the only thing putting me off sending it back atm. cheers again:):) .

I hope people don't get upset about this because i know this is a UK site but i know there are plenty of people from the US actively watching this thread, this appears to be the only place on the internet I can find that people are actively discussing this monitor.

For people residing in the United States

You will not need to pay shipping to get your monitors firmware updated. I specifically asked if other people sending in their monitors for just the firmware update would need to pay shipping costs and they said No.

I have a defect in my monitor as well so I am doing a complete replacement. For advanced replacement they have to put a 500$ hold on your card to ship the monitor in advance and release the hold once you return your monitor (you have 10 days to return it from when you receive the replacement)

If you don't do advanced replacement and just go with repair/replacement for firmware then they they don't need do the credit card hold. I have no alternative monitor so i went for the advanced replacement. The monitor is shipping today or tomorrow. I never even had to call them everything was through email. I just clicked the live/help button that pops up on the side of the webpage when you go to the support section on their website.

It was a rather easy and quick process, they responded to my emails usually within the hour if it was during their work hours. If it matters I purchased my monitor on April 28th 2015

Hi, I've been monitoring this thread closely last few days, (took that long to read it all haha), and I'm also holding off sending back until Skel lets us know if any cost involved, or even better if they drop a new one off same day?

I've had mine since 20th May, although order date says 13th. I wonder if the 21 days does come into it, is that from order date or date monitor was actually received?

BTW - Thanks for all the effort you guys have put into all the info gathered here, still tweaking the settings, but despite the "issues" this IS still an excellent monitor!

[edit] - I'm worried about the 21 day DOA clause so I've opened a ticket already. Asked in the notes to BenQ about shipping &/or replacement.

Update ,,, i've just opened a ticket with BenQ and asked about whether i would have to pay shipping for the return for the the firmware update . Also asked then to arrange for the work to be carried out as well ,, so if i have to pay i will as i do want the update .

Will keep you informed of the outcome and how long it takes for the work to be done, plus the monitor arriving back at my home.
