BenQ XL2730Z Freesync Owners Thread

There are two service menus.

1) power off, hold menu for 5 seconds, power on and menu simultaneously, then release menu.

2) power off, hold menu AND enter for 5 seconds, power on while holding menu and enter, release.

on the unit we tested with V1 firmware the service menu showed V00120150130 as F/W version which should stand for V001 (version 1), 30/1/15 dated

New version i would expect to show V002 and so it looks liike OCUS has a new version as shown above

Could someone say to the rest of us if the new firmware is out?
Because I cannot find it on the benq website.

But if so, how can update it on my monitor?

it cannot be downloaded or updated by the user at this time.

Has the missing "single strobe" option been re-added back to the service menu in V002 ?

that was never intended to be updated so i really doubt it has been included. The new firmware is to address the FreeSync /AMD bug only as far as i know

@Baddass

After to talking to OCUK sales, the current batch of units where from march (doent really help). Only way for them to check is of there is some modification to packaging OR they open up a unit and test it :/

Bah ... then i wait for either the Sammy 4k PLS screens or the Asus MG279Q to become available >.<

By then however my screen fund may have been eaten by the new AMD GFX cards >.<

here's the info on the new firmware and how to get an update:

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_archive/33.htm#benq_xl2730z_firmware

well what a ballache this will be. Firstly, how many of us are still likely to have the original packaging with all the packing stuff. And secondly, how much is it going to cost to send this thing back? Any idea if BenQ will refund for returning?

Edit: Just spoke to BenQ now, we have to pay for the shipping back to BenQ, they will carry out the update and send the unit back free of charge. Apparently a very quick turn around, if any damage gets done to the monitor, they will ship out a brand new screen. So, it's off to the service and warranty section I go to fill out the form and get the RMA number.

pffffffftttt

£500 monitor and have to send back to be sorted out at my own expense. Hmm

Packaging isn't an issue, since I have everything :) (even for my many years old 2410T)

Well, lets hope for the best and they do not damage it, or send me a lemon back.

Poor show from benq!

Tony, if you are going nvidia, I wouldn't bother sending the monitor back for the firmware upgrade.

Anyone know What the expected delivery cost will be:mad: ? :( 20-30 quid maybe

Ballache you hit the nail on the head with that:mad:.

BenQ should provide free return for there products that need the update,
its feels just wrong to have to pay the postage as its no fault of our own.

I may just buy the 980ti and forget about the update all together.

Please TonyT let us know how it all works out and the shipping costs involved , many thanks :)

Hmm, well that's a pain, valuable lesson learnt though, never be an early adopter.

To be honest though I've not really had much of a problem with mine not using the AMA so I don't think I can be bothered with the hassle and expense of sending it back.

i assume then you've got the screen hooked up to a FreeSync capable system? if so, one easy way to test if AMA is working is to load up a constant moving image, maybe this one: http://www.testufo.com/#test=ghosting

then observe that image while you change the AMA setting in the OSD menu. You should see a difference certainly between AMA off and Premium, with the latter showing an obvious dark and pale trail behind it :) if you see a difference, you know AMA is working again and it has the updated firmware.

Sorry I never posted my system specs but I do have a Freesync Capable System (Minus the crossfire driver to actually make Freesync work on my system):

AMD FX 8350 // Asus Crosshair V Formula Z // Sapphire R9 295x2 // G Skill Trident X 16gb (2x8) RAM // Corsair RM1000 // ..... I also use the Mini DP to DP cable that came with the monitor. AMD CCC Driver packaging Version: 14.502.1014-150410a-183324E // Catalyst Version 15.4.1 Beta. I tried the new 15.5 Beta release but it wasn't working right so I uninstalled that and reinstalled the 15.4.1 beta. I am still trying to wait patiently for AMD to release a Driver that can actually make Freesync work with my current GPU.

I checked out the UFO Test Ghosting link you provided (thanks for that) and I noticed a big difference going from AMA off to AMA High and AMA off to Premium. There was a very small difference going from AMA High to AMA Premium.

Just filled in the form to send mine back, not happy with having a £500 monitor that doesn't work the way it should. Annoyed at having to pay shipping costs grrr.
