BenQ XL2730Z Freesync Owners Thread

Yeah gamings fine, on my old screen (Asus VG278HE), through the DL-DVi, set to 144Hz, my memory clock was locked at full whack (any other Hz, and it dropped to 150 fine), so my idle clocks were 300/1250Hz, instead of the normal 300/150, but on here, its now dropping the memory clock correctly at idle, so im getting 300/150 @144Hz, using the DP. :)

Gona take a while to get used to the smaller text etc..., after being so used to 1080p :D

Just about got the picture sorted now too, couple of tweaks i reckon, and she'll be right, no dead pixels or anything too, beautiful screen.

I'm looking forward to bigger text coming from a 4K (well, UHD) screen. I'm worried about it looking blurry though because of the big ppi drop!

Anyway, mine arrived today and I checked and it appears to have the V002 firmware!
Just have to find the enthusiasm to actually connect it up now...

Thats what i was going to ask about, didn't bother using the driver CD (i never do with monitors), but got an optional update come through windows, BenQ - LCD - BenQ XL2730Z (DisplayPort)

Download size: is only 70 KB dated 2014.

Don't really need that either do i, as its working fine ?

well i installed the driver from the disc using the device manager method ,,, also the display pilot software on the disc as well , but then later on uninstalled the software as i didn't really use or need it .

Yeah i doubt id use that either, thanks :)

Just using Standard Picture Mode, and now got it looking like my old screen (or just about).

Blur Reduction is default OFF
Brightness 90
Contrast 75
Sharpness 8
Colour Temp Normal
AMA is on High (don't know what it does though :p)
Dynamic Contrast is OFF.

Im probably going to find out what all the settings do, and probably change from these.

You could probably knock that brightness down a bit LoadsaMoney and save your eyes some strain :)

AMA is the pixel overdrive feature that helps reduce blurring and is what didn't work with any Freesync capable gpus in the V1 firmware.

Yeah i might have another fiddle, just tried the Blur reduction, all it seems to do is dim the screen :p

All small for me now :D

Id get it connected, its a lovely screen. :)

It says in the Menu that Freesync is on, but im not using it at the mo, not got it turned on in the CCC.

EDIT: Just tried the Blur Reduction On, can only really see the difference when watching the UFO on blu busters :D

Got Blur Reduction On now, Intensity 1, Area 10 (deafult that), looks ok now, and switched to Gamma 5.

EDIT: At last, i found how to turn that annoying BEEP off! :D

It's just the hassle of shifting everything on my desk around to re-arrange the monitors, having to fiddle with all the leads and wondering if my HDMI cable will work as an HDMI 2.0 cable...

Just tested and notice no change at all.

Sounds like an issue with the asus monitor then, although I don't remember badass mentioning any issues so perhaps just your monitor?

Thanks for testing Shankly, fair dues, you were the only guy in two threads who did :)

Glad it's not a freesync issue.

Nexus, another guy in the Asus thread had the same issue but he had an early model.

Maybe it isn't a widespread problem, hopefully it's not!!

Its very little but premium looks the better but I mean I really need to look for it.. Now the big shock is just how much a difference AMA off is vs High

WOW!

I mean it really is Night and Day! Anyone with Firmware 2 check that link out. Unbelievable difference.

I must be an idiot, i don't notice a difference with AMA turned on/off on my monitor settings. What exactly should i be looking for?

If its a hassle, id leave it till more time then tbh. :)

GTA V looks bloody great in 1440p, dropped a few frames though from 1080p, still runs well though considering the drop, now get around 45-50 odd in the cities, and anywhere from 30 odd to 40 odd out in the countryside :D

Roll on my Fury X.

First all do you have Firmware Version one or two?? If you have version one and an AMD GPU chances are you wont notice anything because AMA setting is bugged..

If you have version two then, AMA setting will work and my god its night and day.. I'll see if screenshot cap it I dont think it will though maybe phone job but again quality will still be effected.

Edit
Nope screenshot on cap it has its the monitor doing the effect, and phone is just not doing anything at all to capture the effect.

Yeah I get that feeling too. ;) I'll be having a meeting with them later this month and will see if anybody actually knows what exactly was changed. It's usually the case that somebody in Taiwan tweaks something and doesn't communicate exactly what with their UK team.

PCM2:
can you also do us a favor (if you can remember) and ask them about the missing "Single strobe" option for 60hz strobing and the 100hz strobing?

As soon as this monitor allows proper strobing adjustments from 60hz to 144hz in 1 hz increments (like all of the previous Z series did) I'll be all over it.

This is the only reason I haven't purchased this monitor--strobing is very important to me and I tend to use odd refresh rates (91 hz, for example, for call of duty).

Sorry for bugging you about this, but Benq will have an extra sale if they can fix the strobing adjustments.

This behavior affects every monitor using DVI.
It's because 144 hz is not a standard refresh rate.
In order to fit with a proper pixel clock, 144 hz uses reduced timings.

Due to how the "vertical total" signal works, video cards will not downclock the memory clock at idle, when the vertical total is too low from the default VT. But the low VT was required for 144hz over DVI (if you attempted to create a custom 144 hz with default VT (1125 VT on a 1080p screen), you would get an out of range error.

Displayport doesn't have pixel bandwidth limitations, so video cards can downclock fully at 144 hz.

So all the guys that have just received their monitors with V2 firmware, where did you get them? OCUK hasn't had any stock for quite a few days now and I am literally chomping at the bit to get one of these babies.

Same goes for Fury X....hurry up OCUK. :p

Dropped it a bit now, much better now im getting used to it :p

No one can say as competitors are not allowed unfortunately. :(

If these guys havn't got any in, then theres a good chance when they do, they will be v2s.

I just got mine from my mates, local place. :p

Ah i figured out what was going on, I didn't realize that AMA was instantly going into effect when I scrolled down to it rather then when i selected it. So i would scroll to it then focus on the side scrolling images and hit enter/select on HIGH and i wouldn't notice a change. The change happens as soon as you scroll to it not when its selected. My mistake.
