BenQ XL2730Z Freesync Owners Thread

I need your help !!!
I got this monitor but i encountered a lot of judder in videos (youtube , movies ) .
Worse than every other device or monitor that i own.Watchable but i must say distracting.

I tried every setting possible . Every refresh rate possible.
Used display-port , hdmi cables , my 290x or the integrated graphics.
AMA high or premium made no difference.
I even tried a fresh windows 10 installation on a different hard disk . (on my main rig i use windows 7 )
Only blur reduction at its maximum setting seemed to help a little bit.

By the way...
Before this monitor i also tested the Asus MG279Q.
Which i had to return anyway , because i had 5-6 dead/stuck pixels but apart from that
the ips glow was very distracting.
Color was just a little bit better on the Asus but overall the Benq is a better monitor.
I didn't find the viewing angles that bad.It was more distracting on the MG279Q where a lot of times i found my self moving or tilting my head because of the ips glow .
At least on the BenQ i could work without getting distracted.

Now , i need your help with 2 questions i have :
1) Is the second service menu disabled on the V2 firmware ?
I couldn't enter it.I only managed to enter the first one where the internet cafe option is.
2) Can you please test a video for me (concerning my judder problem)
I want to confirm, whether this problem was with my specific panel or whether is something common.
The test video in question,is situated here http://tessive.com/time-shaper-demos/
The second playable one from top.
Can you please run it at full screen and tell me if there is a lot of judder also on your part after min2:00.
On my screen , everything flickers . The tree , the fences . It flickers a lot and it is very distracting. On every other device i test this same video , the judder is not that bad.
(P.S:i might be wrong on calling it "judder"...it might be called "strobing" (reconstruction aliasing) , i am not sure, but anyway it is very distracting.
a little bit you will encounter on every device but not as flickering as i encountered on my screen.I just need your confirmation.)

What refresh rate are you running this at?
Please DISABLE blur reduction and try again.

Are you at 100hz or 60hz refresh rate???

That video @ 2:00 minutes plays smoothly for me - a girl walking down a pavement ye? No issues at all with the fence etc.

What resolution are you testing at?

Thank you very much for testing it for me.Yes this is the correct video.
Native resolution @ 144hz. I tried other refresh rates as well but it didn't change a thing.
Maybe there was something wrong with my panel.
(i already rma'd it but i would love to have this same screen again.)

I found that video just to reproduce the problem.
In movies or youtube videos , even when people moved their heads or hands
there was noticeable judder.
On this particular video , even my 60Hz TN from 2009 fares much better.

I also had trouble with the refresh rates (144hz not available).
I managed to solve it with reset all and plugging it off for 5min.

Since on your part it runs ok , i will ask a replacement instead of a refund.
Thank you for taking the time !!!

Native resolution and 144HZ . Tried 120hz , 100hz and 60hz as well , with no change at all.

Blur reduction disabled all the time. But tried with that as well.

Did you also test the video i pasted ?
Can you also confirm that it is ok on your part ?

Thank you too for your reply !!!

It doesn't black screen over hdmi does it?

HDMI and DVI are both perfect.

DP has this issue at any refresh rate, 60hz, 100hz, 120hz, 144hz etc, makes no difference.

At least I have a work around that seems to work now - though it's quite annoying to have to disconnect my DP cable, then reconnect it after my PC has booted.

Sometimes just making sure my monitor is switched on, before I boot my PC, is enough - though sometimes I need to physically disconnect and reconnect the DP cable etc.

Looks like something went pear shape tonight -_-

Suddenly the screen is full of tiny grid lines, and the text looks like is over-scanned.

Tried DVI cable at 2560x1440 @ 60hz (cannot go higher) and still the issue remains.

Benq cable DP & Sapphire mDP to DP (came with 295X2), which I use over the last year almost, do still show same issues but more prominent.

Edit : Not working at all now, the monitor doesn't recognise the connection

Cleanning up the drivers and re-installing the good old 15.6 doesn't resovled the issue.

Any thoughts?

Go into the Factory menu (aka service menu #2) and do a reset all/recall all, whatever it's called. I don't remember what its called.
It's the picture here.
http://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2222&start=20
NVM its called "Clearuser"

You can enter the factory menu with the same XL2720Z code here:
http://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2590

After you click "Clearuser", power OFF the monitor and UNPLUG it from the AC power outlet for 30+ seconds.

Plug it back in, Power on.

is it fixed?

Thank you. However the text issue is not fixed, but your steps fixed the issue with the DP not working! Now it does. But....

I put fresh windows install (from 7 to 10), 15.12 drivers, nothing. The fonts are annoying that blurry still.

The but above....

Windows are switching now the monitor to 60hz and is flashing when I do something with it. eg turn on-off the freesync, or VSR (which I have always off). I have to manually go every time to the Advance settings and set it to 144hz.

EDIT. Here is a screenshot how the fonts look.
Capture_zpsrzjel6ys.png

However if the monitor or cable was the problem, surely the image should have been cleaner to the rest of you or as image? Could it be issue with the 295X2?

EDIT 2. Ordered mDP to DP, DP1.2 compatible cable Accell B143B-007J, to eliminate the cable from the issues. Because otherwise, we are looking for major issue either with the monitor or the graphic card.
Which I cannot test if is the second, since I do not have any spare card.

Screenshots don't capture this error.
Your screenshot looks flawless and perfect.
You need a *camera* to capture errors like this.

It's like trying to screenshot a video game when your video card is showing artifacts. If you screenshot the artifact, the image will appear as perfect.

Since a factory reset didn't fix the text, 95% chance the monitor must be RMA'd. This text issue has happened to other people on this thread with the Benq and it had to be RMA every time. Similar issues with text corruption happen with the Asus ROG Swift PG278Q as well.

The flickering is more prominent on games, and believe me is annoying. However I will wait until I have the new cable on Tuesday.

But, up to last week was working perfectly when installed the 15.12 and decided to keep them. However all issues happened last night while I was working a Bluray film.
Since then I even have new windows installed, fresh.

Here is from Attila, very annoying flickering.

Hey thank you. For a week now I had this problem, that the monitor was always at 60Hz at the next day after booting, even when I got it to use 120 or 144Hz at 1440p after trying for several hours the day before. This advanced factory menu with the "clear user" option got me the high refresh rates after a reboot.

I tried so many things before, resetting in the normal menu, reinstalling windows, reinstalling graphics card, clearing registry values, resetting bios, attaching other computer with other cable, installing and uninstalling that horrible display pilot software and so on.

Even if it resets to 60 Hz tomorrow again, I have a fast way to fix this problem now. :)

It looks the issue is with the monitor.
Turned it on this morning and the bottom right corner is flickering badly.

Edit.

It is the monitor it seems. I put my old trusty XL2410T on the DVI port, everything is clear without issue. When connecting the XL2730Z with the DVI, everything still looks blurry, the screen is flashing badly.

So I will wait for the new DP cable on Tuesday, and if that doesn't work I will have to RMA the monitor. :(

That sucks, I'm just finishing up my RMA. Been a bit disrupted by Christmas and stuff but after about a month I've nearly got a working monitor.

So if you raise the RMA quick then it might be solved before the end of January and you can have a nice 2nd hand monitor from BenQ...

By the time the 2730Z come back from repairs/replacement it would be ready for sale. (the replacement)

Spoke too early, like every new day I am stuck at 60Hz again at 1440p with display port and GTX 670.
Tried to uninstall monitor and monitor driver and clear the BIOS and do the factory restet of the monitor all at the same boot, still did not work and only 60Hz available.
When I have this problem, I can also only chose between 60 and 144Hz for 1920x1080. No 100 or 120Hz option.
Also the window "List all modes / list of valid" modes for the display adapter shows way less modes compared when 144Hz works.

I want this monitor as it will match my XL2430T which I really like but want a higher res.

Although, reading the last few pages, it all seems to be about RMAing it as it doesn't work properly?

I'd like to try freesync too :p

I have mine since April and had served me well. The issues I am experiencing started when I upgraded to 15.12 (from 15.6) and decided what the heck keep them and use the Asus software to keep the 2d clocks high.

Could be the cable/adaptor are gone, because the cable that comes with the monitor is not suited for it. You must buy another one. Could be also that the DP to mDP adapter that came with my 295X2 is a goner. However that couldn't explain why with DVI the screen quality is pants.

So until Tuesday you can ignore me. :D
Could be that I have issues with the 295X2. Which imho I do not want to think about it :(

The monitor is superb, and I do love it. The bracket where I am hanging the G35 is "gold" adding huge value to this monitor :D

Hahah, I'm getting some money at the start of Jan so I think I'm going to treat myself, this being my one and only treat of 2016 so I can save to go travelling in 2017.

I hope you get all of your issues sorted and I hope I have none :D
