Bent CPU Pins?

What could I do with this board now? I might try and sell it for spare parts or something. Any chance I could replace the old socket? Perhaps buy a cheap faulty 1156 board and change the socket out? Probably wont be able to, but might be worth looking at maybe ...
You probably wouldn't be able to fix it yourself, but MSI might be prepared to repair it for a reasonable price. You might find that paying them to repair it means you make some money in the long run since you're likely to get next to nothing selling it for spares.

ps. Good result, shame you had to push it this far to get it.

Serraph, glad it worked out for you in the end! I could personally hand deliver the board back to him in bits and film it if you want? :) Otherwise send it to me anyway and I will have a go fixing it. Or try it yourself. I reckon so long as none of the pins are missing aka snapped off, they should be able to be bent back. Depends if you want to spend a few hours doing it. If successful remember, you can sell it again (this time not to a scammer!) and preferably on OCUK Members market, for £100 again. Win win situation.

Wahey :D
Glad to hear this all worked out! i'm not as experienced as some of the boys here, but in the past I've found that bending the pins back has worked for 1-2 bent pins.
Course, it depends how buggered the pins are, but if they're just bent and not snapped it's worth a shot I'd say.

Keep it for the moment, until this ebay thing plays itself out in full. You may have to send it to the chap again.

However, send MSI (or ask MSI-guy on here) a question about socket repair as someone vandalised your board. Alternatively, someone may want it as spares/repair as you say :-)

Nah there is no way I can just bend the pins back, some of them have been properly bent. Check the photo out again. The only way I can see of fixing it is with a socket replacement. Perhaps I will ask MSI about it.

Brilliant news. Personally i wouldn't bother sending the motherboard back as it could have a negative effect on the outcome. just leave it as it is. you could try and contact msi and see what they say but as it will have voided the warranty you would more than likely have to pay for a new board plus any postage charges. Get it framed as a reminder.

Sorry to bring back an old thread, well done on the case and I hope you stay far away from ebay from now on. I just wanted to ask, how did your exams go? Hope they went well.
