Bent CPU Pins?

In this day and age it wouldn't surprise me if his parents didn't give a crap what he was doing and/or actively defended him regardless of what he'd done. The chances of them even fully understanding the issue are slim as it is.

That is a sad possibility, and one that has to be considered, but because he has to present all the evidence to eBay anyway there 'may' be nothing to lose.

Expect the the worse, and perhaps be pleasantly surprised...

I know if I scammed someone like that my parents would immediately take all of my computer stuff away and ground me forevermore lol.

Take comfort in the fact that you probably have normal, grounded, caring parents - even if your butt would be dust.

Additional: Serraph, considering it's such an important period for you educationally - have you considered deferring this until your exams are out of the way?

It must be a hell of a distraction.

Yes, that is why I have not been to the police or solicitors yet. Just had my first exam today, and have to hand in my final report tomorrow, but that's done now. Will probably take this up again on Friday, as I have 10 days till my next exam. Should give me some time to visit the Police again.

Apparently jaybee says the area is quite decent, so could be that the parents could be some who care. I don't really know though, obviously they did something wrong if he is trying to scam people, and I have a feeling they might have gotten involved already when his writing style changed. You never know though.

If they don't know much about hardware they won't know about mismatching sockets etc. And if they're his parents they're likely to take their Son's word over OP's, unless you go to their house and tell them your point of view.

If the area is decent then that's a bonus, better chance than going to a council estate on the outskirts :D

Oops... forgot to say good luck with your exams, keep them priority ^^ Would be nothing worse than getting a lower grade because you're trying to sort out a problem that isn't your fault.

Sounds like a sensible decision – you don’t want the ‘little scrout’ to compromise your exams as well as trying to shaft you.

Good luck with your exams – and think of the reward - summer break! 3 months of beer, women, lazing around, women, beer… halcyon days.

Unfortunately, money and well-to-do areas is no indicator of morality.

Having said that, the parents may still be good people - a kids actions sometimes don’t reflect the way they’ve been brought up. Kids can do stupid things that go against their true character and have moments of ‘suspended normality’ but, admittedly, this seems to have gone beyond the behaviour of a socially, well adjusted kid. He could well be a nipple head with matching t*ts for parents…

The letter may still be worth a try – he could have been sufficiently spooked and lied to his parents which may explain the change in writing style (or a better educated friend). They may be acting in good faith with the false evidence he’s provided – their tone may change completely with the truth (no guarantee of course.)

Kudos to Jaybee as he doesn’t know what he’s walking in to. Although, if a 6ft, drug addled, sado masochis answers the door with a giant d*ldo in hand, I suggest he just runs…

Seraph did you send them a letter yet? Send one today first class recorded so it arrives tomorrow morning, address it to Mr and Mrs XXXXX and then if it is a kid with parents then one of them should pick it up and read it. Preferably make the front of it a typed address label rather than hand written to avoid any possibility of the kid intercepting it, so make it look official. Then worst case is that it isn't a kid and the scammer picks it up. Oh well...no loss. Most likely case is that the parents pick it up and read it. In which case you put in the letter the basic facts if you like, state that you have been to the police and are persuing all legal channels including an ebay enquiry, paypal enquiry and small claims court. State that you would be prepared to make this all go away if they settle simply out of court by refunding you the money in cash/cheque/bank transfer or whatever. Do NOT state that they will be getting a visit from your representative (aka me) as that gives them time to prepare and "expect" someone to visit which is more dangerous for me if they are a dodgey family.

Remember, if it is a 16 year old kid, he is likely just going through GSCEs as well and is not going to want this hanging over him at all. His mum and dad will clearly pay you back the £96 and be done with it. Even a complete spanner low life would do that to ensure the best for their kid.

If you send that out today and you hear nothing by early next week, I'll pay them a visit for you if you still want that.

That's my suggestion. You need to get the letter in the post today ideally before weekend, as I am in that area next week I think it will probably be Monday night.

Relax though, you will get this sorted.

What a great thread, couldn't stop reading it!! I didn't realise how bad ebay is, will stick to MM!

Hope you manage to get this sorted, don't let this guy get away with it so easily!

Sorry, nothing to update yet. Due to pending exams I was not able to do anything over the weekend, been to busy. I was not able to send out a letter in time either. I do plan on going back to the Police at some point, hopefully this week. Although on the plus side my exams are over next week, so will be more on top of it then.

Man i feel for you

I would personally make a visit to his house and scare the crap out of him "BUT" the better way is to take him to small claims and i think when he looses he pays all the cost (i might be wrong but i think he would)

Good luck mate and i know i wont be selling MOBO's etc on eGay

maybe this will cheer you up, 90% off topic

I once was trying to flash my mobo to get a new bios, for some reason it wouldnt recognise the newest revision of die shrunk AMD chips back then barcelona? without a flash. So i went to a friends house to put his old version of the chip in for the Bios flash.

I took off the springs for the Cooler and popped off the heatsink... looked down did not see the CPU... Confused i looked at the heatsink in my hand... and without lifting the CPU lock arm, i ripped the CPU out of the socket. EVERY cpu pin was bent.

Spent 2.5-3.5 hours with a pair of scissors and paper clip straightening all the pins out. flashed the bios then it still works today afaik. Not fired it up in 2.5 years.

OH MY GOD!! SUCCESS!!!!!

After appealing to the case, and with continuing poking, and a bit of slagging off their support system, looks like eBay have finally looked at it properly and are reversing the transaction, giving me the money back!!

:BIG GRIN XD

You have no idea how relieved this has made me. This is a huge weight off my shoulders, now I don't have to both with Police and Solicitors and can continue to focus on my exams! WHOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I just hope that it sticks!! ;)

I might see if I can't do anything more against this base-tard, don't want him doing it again, plus he has really been an annoyance!! Depends on how bored I get after uni finishes :P

XD
