yes ballack does. Does gerrad have good defensive qualities... No .. Thats why him and lampard cant play in centre mid together.

Of course he does. He's the best defensive mid England have. He just has many more strings to his bow than that.

Vieira and Emerson are past it, Makelele is the best atm but is getting old, i personally don't rate Gatusso, Pirlo is a different type of player and haven't seen anything from Diarra, Mascherano or De rossi (who i have barely heared of) to think that they can do the job Sissoko does.

No because he is more effective going forward, so rather than restrict him to sitting in front of the back 4 they play him further forward.

Well its a circular argument isn't it? He and Lamps don't play well together because Gerrard isn't played as a defensive midfielder, and Hargreaves is 'picked ahead of him' because Gerrard can offer more as a more attacking midfielder. I thought that much was obvious.

Did you not see the world cup vieira had ? And he scored 2 goals on his debut for Inter.

Diarra is amazing thats why he cost 27 million euros

De rossi is also great and young although got a temper.

Gatusso ... How can you not rate him Would get into any team.

Pirlo is a dm(playmaker) but still a dm and better then sissoko

And also Yaya toure is quality

You said he is the best english dm ... So think about what you are saying.

If he is the best english dm, there would be no prob with him and lampard.

That's because he wasn't played as a DM with Lampard, and as Gilly has pointed out Gerrard is better AM than DM... so why waste that talent?

No they didn't. They played them in a flat 4. If they'd employed Gerrard as a DM England would've fared better.

So what did arsenal play with vieira ? Yup you guessed it a flat 4 with him holding.

just because its called a flat does not mean they do not move from cm position.

So a flat 4 would mean that lamps cant get forward cos he has to play cm

If Gerrard was playing as a holding midfielder how on earth did he manage to get forward down the right hand side to score vs T&T? While Gerrard and Lampard played together for England they didn't play with an out and out holding player, they were told to sit when the other went forward.
And Vieira wasn't a holding midfielder either.

They did make subs towards the end . And this is why he isnt the best english dm. Cos he cant hold the mid gilly.

And vieira was our holding mid

I am sorry but that video is a load of crap, it's blurred for one thing and you can't see the skills he is using on the ball. And when you can see the goals he scored, they are not that spectacular either, and then half the video is showing he is celebrating (My 80 years old grandmother can do that too). It's just glorified video with a rap soundtrack trying too hard to promote an average player to me.

do you even know who steven gerrard is? he is awesome defensively, just is more awesome going forward, you cant do both. He is better going forward than lamps, and better defensively, and a better crosser etc.... he is a victim of his own versitility. (why he is on the right). Lampard is world class, unfortunately gerrard is better, IMO there is one position for the two of them and gerrard has to take it. He can play on the right but I prefer out and out wingers, I can see mclarens dilemma as lampard is hard to leave out (ignoring his dire WC form, the rest of the team werent much better)

IMO gerrard is the best midfielder in the world, people get to hung up on tricks and **** that has no impact on games. Gerarrd has pace and stregnth in abundance, awesome stamina and can tackle with the best of them, awesome passer and his shot needs no introduction, he dosent need to dribble, he just powers past defenders like they werent there, scored 23 (I think) goals last season, mainly from right wing cutting in, imagine how many he'd score in a chelsea formation with makelele taking all the position responsibility off him!

Sissoko is sort of the same player but without the passing and the attacking skill he plays it simple (how a good DM should unless their name is alonso), but does seem to have a decent shot, the defending, pace, stregnth and stamina are the same (if not a little better), he may not be the most pleasing to watch, but the attributes he does have make him awesomely effective in his role. The only thing he dosent have is experience. A couple of years he will be at the top of all of your DM lists mark my words!

I dont need anyone to side with me thats just my opinion (although I suspect a few will).

And please dont call me a liverpool fanboy, I can see it coming, there are 2 pool players in my squad FFS not 11.
