Best 1440p monitor for £500

Still leaning towards the Asus as I'm reading lots of quality issues with the dell. This added to my past experience with the poorly designed power button on my 2407wfp means i'll probably buy the Asus.

One question, will I need a different cable for the higher res? I'm hearing you need a dvi-d cable? What's display port connection?

I'm really interested about this as well.....I like the look of the ASUS as its got a semi glossy display and I really like the glossy display on my NEC....just don't know if I should part with my NEC after 7 years....and also will my 7870 cope....so same situation as you really...

Yeah, I'm still torn between the Asus and the Dell. Although also been looking at the Veiwsonic, but it's a little above my budget. The Catleaps look quite nice for the price but i'd be a bit worried about the warranty and returns if I got a bad one.

Except that half the Dells have bad backlight bleed in the bottom left corner puts me off.

I know all LCD monitors will have a certain degree of bleed due to the technology and manufacture process, but some of the pictures of the yellow bleed on the Dells are very poor indeed.

I'd go with the U2713HM if you don't mind having to return it a few times, to be honest I'd forget about your own bad experience as in general DELL have great warranty, one of the main reasons for buying them in the first place. Sucky that you had a bad experience but don't count it as the norm. DELL are very forgiving with returns especially when it comes to the ultrasharp series. Got one myself and love it.

As for your issue with the buttons? Mine feel sturdy enough to last.

They don't have a great warranty anymore when it comes to the U2713HM, i recently bought one from Overclockers, its got light bleed in the bottom left hand corner and a little bit on the bottom middle.

I contacted Dell where i was told that the light bleed issues on the U2713HM are now being quoted as within tolerances, thats their new take on things. The woman i spoke too admitted that they have had a lot of problems with light bleed issues on this monitor, she even told me that one particular customer had returned one 8 times because of the issue.

Now they won't swap one if you get light bleed issues, they will just turn round and say "I'm sorry but its within tolerances", so the warranty aint worth a carrot when it comes to this monitor, its basically tough luck on you as far as Dell are concerned.

So this backlight bleed... people are sitting in dark rooms with a black background on the monitor? Or it is noticeable in normal usage?

Thinking about getting a U2713HM myself.
