Best language to learn

If you want to learn a language just for personal benefit I recommend Latin. Studying Latin improved my English skills and vocabulary more than any English class I had ever taken.

i would say spanish, as it seems to be most popular to english.

mind you a lot of people can't even speak english properly

the letter "H" is pronounced

"ach" not "hach" :p when will you all learn lol

Latin is a fun language to learn but of little pratical everyday use, apart from showing off some extremely snobby english words that come straight from latin.

For useful languages choose from either french, spanish or mandarin as they are the most spoken languages after english

Defintley chinese. It won't be easy, but is one of the most useful languages to know. I'd place Spanish second, and due to the sheer population, hindi third.

latin is not fun, it is the opposite of fun - but yet somehow even less fun than that.

Latin is a language as dead as dead can be
It killed the ancient Romans
and now it's killing me!

Someone suggested arabic, which I'd also have to disagree with because arabic in one country is quite different from arabic in another - I know people who speak it fluently and yet struggle to have a proper conversation with each other because they learnt it in different countries.

I would recommend Spanish. I think all the reasons for learning spanish have already been gone through - though they are very good reasons - so I wont repeat them.

While your rhyme is amusing, I must disagree with its sentiment. Latin is alive and well as the regional dialects of it are spoken by people in France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, and Romania just to name a few.

im thinking about learning to speak in another tounge, what would be the best language to learn and benefit me the most i was thinking italian or spanish?

Lets hope you learn how to speak it better than you have learned how to write this language! :p :)

I thought Portugeuse was the most common spoken language, but maybe those numbers come mainly from developing countries?

learn mandarin, then jump on the economical bandwagon in China to earn some serious ££££

Mandarin may be a language of the future but then again so was Russian 30 years ago.

If China goes belly up and its people no longer forced to learn mandarin you'd lose approx 30% of its nominal speakers. Even so i'm sure you'd find it easy to order your peking duck and chicken chow mein at the local chinese restaurant
