Best mATX conroe capable board for sensible money

Just thought id add my experience with the asus P5B-VM as ive just finished building the system.

As mentioned elsewhere in the thread overclocking is pretty poor, im far from an experienced clocker but i still like to have a go.
Bad news is anything above a fsb of 274 and it wont boot. One problem im aware of that doesnt help is the Memory i have is rated at 2.1v and of coarse this motherboard only goes up to 1.95. Ive still got a few things to try and i shall report back if i can get it clocked any further.

The total system spec is:
Asus P5B-VM
Intel core 2 duo E6600
2GB GSKILL 6400 HZ
EVGA 7900GT 256mb

Overall though i am very very happy with the system. Its far better than my AMD64 3200 clawhammer/ FX5900gt system. I can run games such as far cry and quake 4 at maximum graphics settings and it runs as smooth as silk.

I do feel the lack of overclocking is a waste of my cooling system though - Swiftech storm CPU block, Maze4 GPU block, D5 variable pump, thermochill PA120.2 and 2 x Scythe S-FLEX 1600RPM fans all tied together with 7/16th tubing.

Took delivery of my components this morning.

4 hours later, one very smooth build.

Now running the system in my sig. ROCK solid.

Anyone want pics and benchies? It's running integrated graphics so anything GPU intensive will be poor.

hey tute can ya send us some pics i am a bit worried about the placement of that psu connector also the height of the cpu h/f some pics of inside be nice cheers

I'll lend you my P5L-VM if you like. I've put the E6300 chip in a water-cooled DS4 rig now, until the IB-95 comes along, hopefully with some overclocking options.

a very kind offer!! maybe take it you up on it at the end of the month if no one else does! need some £££ first to buy everything else!

Saw a posting from someone called Wilson on the asus forums in the P5B-VM section:

Sent an email to tech support asking if they planned to add PCI lock to the bios. They replied with this:

Dear Sir/Madam

No sir we do not.

I say that is such a shame. They seem to have everything else in place on this board. It would fill a niche in the market that is currently completely vacant.

Asus has really screwed it for me. Not sure if I will ever buy one if they mislead people that much. The box clearly states that you can adjust speed as you wish.
In ones dreams I gues...

I sold my P5B-VM last week. Glad to be rid of that POS.
