Best Retro Handheld

Just had something odd happen. Been playing Advance Wars and using the save state on exit of retroarch option. I completed a level this afternoon and pretty sure I exited then powered down as per usual. When I fired the game up a bit later it started as if I hadn't played that level. I set the save state slot to auto and tried to load that and it went right back to midway through field training before I even started the campaign. When i changed back to 999 it was the same as the auto state so I've lost all progress.I've looked into how save states work since and located the folder for it and it only contains 999 and auto which are effectively the same thing. Now it's quite possible I forgot to exit for today's playthrough to disappear but how would it have reverted back to earlier in the week if there was only 1 save state in use?

I try to remember to make manual saves as I go and not rely on auto save entirely as I've had similar experiences and don't trust it anymore.

I've though about setting up syncthing, not so much to sync across devices but to act as a backup.

I'm debating turning off auto save and load of states and just rely on the games save options for most cases and use the saved state for 1 off's etc. I've done a bit of searching on it and found a few people saying things have reverted back too.

Turned off auto save and auto load state for Retroarch and when I continued the campaign it took me to the very furthest campaign level that I had reached previously. Absolutely no idea how that is possible.

I find that the auto-save and auto-load are different to the actual manual save states you create.

Auto also screws up some systems. I always use manual saves or in games saves where possible.
Saving wherever you want was never originally designed that way on many systems (even saving at all)

Just picked up an R36S from Aliexpress, after doing my research and making sur the seller I was buying from was selling genuine ones. And I've checked mine is genuine. loving it so far, although only been playing it for a few hours

I got the same a few weeks ago. I've only used it a few times. took it away with me this last weekend and the left stick no longer works, in fact the d pad doesn't either so zero movement in games. Cheap rubbish, pay for what you get :D

For those with Anbernic RG xx devices on Stock/Modded Stock - just a did you know that you can put extra systems/retroarch cores in the EMU folder, and then launch them via App Center->Expert->TF2 then browse to the Emu folder and then the folder for the new system.

Roms need to go in the same folder, and boxart in an Img folder within that folder.

Guide here:
Extra Systems here:

Not ideal but at least an option (as I wanted ZX Spectrum games!), but I am nagging Anbernic to see whether they can add missing platform support in a future firmware (or release the source of the launcher, so I can mod it myself)

Had a flutter with modded stock earlier as my muOS boot times were becoming quite long again after a few boots. Then realised minUI development for the RG40XXH has stopped and couldn't find an earlier version to use. So now settled back on an older version of muOS and sticking with it for good this time!
