Best XMBC Box

Why the hostilities? I've had all manner of media PC. XP MCE, Vista MCE, 7 MCE, Media Portal, Chromecast, Windows and XBMC, Linux and XBMC, RPi with various OSs, OpenELEC and now a Fire TV.

The RPi will work, but it's not the best, even at this price point. I'm just trying to offer advice as I've learnt the hard (read: expensive) way.

I'm sorry, that wasn't my intention. I have heard great things about the Kindkle Fire but it's just another box that won't get fully used. Already have a smart tv th st doesn't get used, the ps4 doesn't really either and now the You View box had Netflix on it we didn't need to use Netflix on the tv or ps4.

So really, this basic little thing seemed ok, use it when we want to watch a film or tv shows.

I do appreciate your help though

I will be buying a Minix X8-H soon. I have had a lot of media pcs and still have a couple but they all tend to be overkill. The Minix X8-H is very compact, will play 4K (I only have 1080p though) it is android based, has Kodi built in, it is very power efficient. I have seen them play uncompressed 1080p BR Rip with no issues at all. For just over £100 its well worth the money and as its android based I can easily install MAME, Snes9x etc and have all my old time favs on my big tv.. However shonky they look :D

A few friends and I got pretty deep into finding a very capable Kodi box last year and the MiniX X8H was hands down the best option around.

So much power and Android OS for that freedom with tons of apps/games. You could literally install TVMC (via their website) and with zero setup have all your media entertainment needs answered effortlessly.

That QNAP is interesting, they're known for their NAS but this seems like a node server for accessing content on the local network and using PLEX as the media browser.

Not sure if that would be worth a purchase if you already own a NAS. Isn't it better to use an Android box running Kodi for local and online content?
