bet365 boss pays herself £265 MILLION

It’s getting ridiculous on here.

In the last day or so, I’ve seen people wanting smoking, drinking and gambling banned. I swear some people would love us to go back to the puritanical days of Cromwell. They’ll be wanting Christmas banned next as it promotes greed and unhealthy living.

Yes, why not? We banned smoking, didn't we.

Smoking is one of the most damaging things you can do to your health, it's actually worse for you than being obese, we have to spend billions treating illnesses caused by smoking, it's not the same.

We did a lot more than that with tobacco, and there's no reason why we couldn't do the same with alcohol.
Exactly what would you like to be done about drinking then? Forget banning completely, that would never happen in a million years, so what other measures should we take?

She should buy back the other % owned by shareholders and shut the company down and move to sole trader.. Then no-one would know but the tax man

In terms of being addicted then no it isnt, but ot goes down to lack of self control which is the individuals problem and not the bookmakers. You can't blame a bookmaker on the fsct someone can't manage their money and put it all on a horse expecting to win, or bet more than they can afford and chase losses.

Exactly. Her bonus has nothing to do with addiction, dunno how we managed to get that line blurred but this is GD, I'm surprised her race / sexual identity / location / Brexit vote hasn't been brought in to it. She could've made that money running a brothel for all I care, if she earned the money legally then what are people moaning about?

My only objection in this thread is to those who think that addiction is overcome with willpower and a stiff upper lip, these people very evidently have no idea what they're talking about. And although I can see the dots that were joimed to link it to this topic, I don't think gambling addiction is worth bringing in to this.

It's shamelessly marketed at kids and the vulnerable, and the digital age has exacerbated the problem no end. It's tragic to watch a gambling addict lose their lot to these sharks, it really is. People saying it's a free choice are just not interested in thinking about the issue - they are oblivious to the tactics that these vultures employ.

All of that could equally apply to PC games.

It's obvious! Of course we couldn't implement an outright ban, but we could certainly stop it being marketed to kids via logos on football shirts for a start.

This is public health 101.

Ironically, beer sponsors on football shirts have mostly been replaced by gambling companies now.

"Gamble Responsibly" is an oxymoron.

No it isn't.

If I have £50 disposable income that I can spend without negatively impacting my life, using it to gamble is no different than using it to buy some pc games, or go to the cinema, or any other pastime/hobby I choose.

Sure, not everyone gambles with money they can afford to lose, but the very fact that doing so is possible, it is possible to gamble responsibly (ie. within one's financial limits).

Some might say that the very rich have a responsibility to care for the people who got them there, if not for the eventual retribution.

They might, some might say she does by paying them already, but all roads lead back to it being her choice.
