BF4 Retail CPU scaling measured

Slightly off topic, but I really want to do a AMD build for my next build. Really wish for next gen AMD could bring out something performance wise that can shake-up Intel's offering like their 290s doing to Nvidia's pricing.

Thing is? the game is going to be GPU bound. Which is why an AMD CPU makes more sense, simply because it's cheaper. I priced up two bundles today.. One was -

AMD FX 6300 £84.87
Asus M5A97 R2.0 £59
Crucial Ballistic 2x4gb DDR3 £53.

Total = £196.87. The 4670K alone costs £174. £22 less than an entire AMD bundle. The board I picked is full sized, 4+2 so not 4+1 and has great VRM cooling.. Onto the big hitter...

AMD FX 8320 £116.93
Asus M5A99x Evo R2.0 £95.98
Crucial Ballistic 2x4gb DDR3 £53.

Total = £265.91 The I7 4770K costs £237.40. So again, for £28 or so you can have a full bundle, rather than just a CPU.

Then you can use the money you saved (well in excess of £100 on either system) to put into your GPU. So instead of getting a R280X you can get a R290, and your money has gone where it matters, not on stupid snobbery.

Snobbery has nothing to do with it. These bundles are great value, IF THE ONLY THING YOU'RE LOOKING TO DO is play BF4/Crysis 3.

That's a pretty huge 'if'.

Plus they are great for plenty of other games. I helped spec dozens of builds on various forums(and in real life too),and the FX6300 has decent performance when compared to Intel CPUs in many games.

The people bitching and moaning about how slow an FX6300 is,are those who have little or no experience of using sub £110 CPUs in any meaningful way. I have used the whole gamut of them from recent Core i3,FM2 Athlon II X4 and the FX63** series CPUs. Heck,I have a Xeon E3 myself, but I can acknowledge the makings of a good budget CPU.

The more games they can do well in the better for all of us. We should be having low end £110 to £120 quad cores from Intel now,not a reheated Core i3 which cannot be overclocked.

Heck, look in general hardware, plenty of builds with the FX6300 are specced by loads of members(people such as Stulid and the like),if the budget does not allow for a £150 CPU.

Because if you can't get an unlocked i5, then the AMD most of the time ends up being the better choice.
There is nothing from Intel to touch the 6300, now with game? It's a budget dream with a 7850.

LOL of course it's snobbery. What you said there ^ confirms it ! you think the Intel is a better processor so you buy it, dismissing the AMD.

The funny part is that you are buying it on brand, not on what it can actually do. If you were really interested to find out what it could actually do you wouldn't buy the Intel. You'd read a review just like this one (brought to you by the same guys who have pretty much single handedly fixed Crossfire X)

Reading this part here -

So what do we actually get with this release? Well, it is a bittersweet release for AMD. The pricing on these parts is not only competitive, it undercuts Intel by a significant amount across the board. The 8350 is very competitive with the 3570K, and it can be had for $30 less. The 6300 will walk all over the Intel products that exist at the $132 price point, and in fact is more competitive in terms of performance with the $185 Intel products. Again, we get a nice $50 discount for essentially the same performance. In these cases though, expect the AMD CPU to consume more power. Would it be enough to make one nervous about energy bills? Not really.

And you'd say "Bugger me, what a performer !" and buy the AMD.

But you won't, because logic dictates that Intel is better and so you can feel safe in the knowing that you have, in your eyes the best.

THAT is snobbery. Plain and simple.

What? I never once claimed the FX6300 is slow or useless. Like I've already said various other places, it's practically the best price/performance CPU you can buy at the moment.

Declaring the FX6300 will get you equivalent performance across the board to an 4670K, on the other hand, is simply false.

I'm not getting drawn into this argument again. The 'snobbery' card is being used as the internet equivalent of "lalalalalala I can't hear you".

Slightly off topic but whilst on the VFM train
BF4 is a bit pricey don't you think ?

Just checked it out and it looks like £45 and another £39 for the premium pack.
The price of Games is ridiculous.

If you were then 99.9% of gamers would be.
A 2700K at 4.8Ghz is very fast.

Is that a legit question or a windup ?

Be cautious with that % is that a fact? :p

I picked it up from a popular supermarket for ~ £35 and then applied the wifes card points system to knock it down under £30. :D
