BFG RMA question

Hi Jeff.
I have a faulty BFG card. Below is the responce from the BFG tech dept. I have done as requested but have had no response so far. Any chance of looking into it for me?

Wait, this faulty card you speak of, is that the one you bought in the first place or is it the one that came from RMA? I just want to make sure you taken care of now.

Nah I bought it in the first place and it was faulty and the RMA turned out fine! :) Should have worded things better Jeff!

Good thing is though it was a fault that most stores wouldnt pick up on in their test bed and I would get it returned as if it was ok! Kudos to BFG for actual rigorous testing procedures especially with something like Artifacts.

Thanks jrodga. My 260Max core is squeeling like a pig. So bad infact that I have to turn the sound up, not good when gaming after a late shift!!

Reading all the postive comments I regret not getting 9600GT, and opting for a 4670. Maybe the passively cooled 9800GT will sway me for an early upgrade.
 
My Card is on its way back to me , just seems stuck up the road at there depot :( . But i can wait a little longer . Must say once the rma got issued and it was only 24hrs from me posting to the card being dispatched back to me.

Question for Jeff :- What will happen to the old data on myprofile and the warranty info that is on the website, do i have to ask for it to be changed to a new serial number to get the warranty tranferred as my original card was faulty on arrival. Thanks
 
Still Shuting Down

Well I really hate my 280 OC as it keeps shuting it self down. I got a new PSU with the 8 pin connector on it as me and jeff were thinking it was the 2x6 pin to 1x8 pin causing the problem. But it looks like it the 280 thats the problem as it like to power it self down for no reason. Its funny tho as it will work fine for a for days-weeks before it starts to do it powering down trick. I must say tho I have had enouth of it doing it now and wish I never got the thing.

I recieved a replacement card and the sticker on the new card was basically transerred from my old one. There was also a yellow sticker stating the new serial number but from the other info on that I believe it is linked to your account.

Remember they have your RMA data on file so they can look that up no problem in the future :)

Well afther the problems I have had with the BFG 280 GTX OC I think im going to go over to ATI for my next graphic cards. I know I could RMA my 280 but Y should I pay more to rma it when I have already paid over 340 pound for a faulty product. I have always been an nvidia person but now im looking at ATI. Yes I know getting new graphic cards will cost more than it would to RMA the 280 but I have already had 1 die and this one shut down on me. Whos to say the 3rd one wont be just as bad. I think im going to go over the UK consumer laws cos if I remenber right there is one that says if a produck is not to your satifaction or faulty u are intitled to get your money back. So I need to make my mind up on what I want to do, RMA, Money back, go over to ATI. Still not made my mine up justed yet.

Well, anyone can get a bad card. You could even get two bad cards, but 3 bad cards and I'd be suspecting something you are doing to the cards is damaging them. I would certainly spend the extra £10 or so to RMA the 280 because you'll lose over £100, maybe as much as £150 if you try to sell it in today's market.

So I need to make my mind up on what I want to do, RMA, Money back, go over to ATI. Still not made my mind up just yet.

Well, you have to give the retailer reasonable opportunity to provide you with a working card. If they can do that, you can't have a refund I'm afraid. Unfortunately, you've gone to BFG rather than the retailer, so your rights are weaker than had you dealt with the retailer directly throughout. I would only ever go to the manufacturer directly once the basic UK/EU warranty is expired ie. after 12 months. I'm afraid I think you're going to have to RMA again.

I did take the frist one back to OC and they replaced it afther they fount it to be faulty. The problem with taking the second one back is the card dose not do it all the time. So it mite look like a fully working card to OC as it can be fine for a few mins or a few weeks. So my problem is I know what OC are like in these cases cos I use to work for them and if they cant find a fault right away they will say the card works fine. Plus I would have to wait for OC to get a BFG 280 GTX OC as they no longer sell them. Plus I also know 2 people that are on there 4th and 5th cards so what the chances of the 3rd one being faulty I would say pretty high.

Looks like my 8800 gt oc2 has died, trying out another gfx card tomorrow to make sure first.

I dont live far from Bfg wales so hopefully they wont take too long :/
 
Hey guys,

I've got a BFG 7900 GTX OC 512mb, I know its an old card but I have to admit its been good to me (up until now).
I'm considering an RMA and I was just wondering if anyone would hazard a guess as to what I might get as a replacement?

I've had it for a couple of years and I still have the original box and packaging etc, but no receipt...will this be a problem do you think?

I was hoping it would last me until I've saved enough for a full major upgrade (probably i7) but sadly it looks like its not going to :(
 
:(Diverse, I think unless you register your bfg card you only have a few years warranty. (dont quote me on that though) I cant check as i'm not at home at the minute. I registered mine a few days ago and had to e-mail them the receipt so i'm not sure. I'm still waiting on Bfg since Tuesday for an RMA. I'm getting tempted just to buy a new card now
 
I've just registered my old 7900 GTX OC (everything went through ok) and then I got an email reply stating that I needed to send my details and also a receipt to complete the registration.

As I don't have a receipt (the card was a gift) I sent a copy of the 'Proof Of Purchase' tag thats on the side of the original packaging...this should be o.k right as I'm assuming thats what its there for?

Has anyone else done this perhaps?
 
The different warranty terms only came in last year. You don't need to register your card to get the full 10-year warranty if you bought it before August 2008 (I think) - you just need the BFG part number and the serial number.

My guess is that because the 7900GTX was a top line card you'll get a good card back - possibly a GTX260, but it could also be any decent 512Mb card eg. 9800GTX+. I doubt you'll be disappointed. Even mildly, like I was:rolleyes:
