Biennial MOT tests

Ah got it mixed up thought it was all car inspections for sale.

I try to keep my interiors in good condition but sadly don't have a good setup for doing the same for the underneath :(

I'm trying to work out what's wrong with the suspension from that pic? Also I find most workmen I've dealt with tend to have mucky vehicles (I guess plastering probably being one of the worst as that dust gets everyehere).

The garage that fitted the new shocks had somehow managed to fit the bracket that holds the speed sensor, pad warning wire and brake hose incorrectly, which has caused the anti roll bar drop link to bend as its fouling on it.
Also the speed sensor wire is pretty much crushed, but still not faulting.
It takes a special kind of stupid to do something like that!

and that vehicle had 2 child seats in the rear..

One of the more chilling things I've encountered is people's dad doing their car maintenance whose first reaction is always that the garage is wrong/ripping off and can't see past their prejudice and/or can't/won't acknowledge a problem until it actually manifests as a serious issue so will dismiss minor noises, etc. which are clearly an indicator of a pending serious failure.

Yes absolutely.
Had a Fiesta in today for MOT and noticed the anti roll bar rubbing on the drive shaft, and upon further inspection found the suspension arm almost bent in half, and the wheel bearing so shot that the wheel was barely hanging on, and the subframe had been shifted by a fair amount.
A replacement wheel had been fitted (with the wrong sized tyre) and the damaged wheel was in the boot, and when I say the wheel, I mean what was left of it.
Now, who ever fitted the wheel must have noticed that after fitting it that there was a massive amount of play akin to the wheel being loose and not tightened up, but no, no they didn't.
Utterly terrifying.

My Merc goes in tomorrow for another MOT.

Again missed the date, realised when I came to tax it :(

I got MOT reminders from 3 different Merc dealers. One from the one I bought the car from and two from ones I've taken the car to for servicing. Oh and got one from the MOT reminder service

I got zero dealer reminders amazingly but need to sign up for sure as this is twice now. This time only a couple of weeks out, last time was erm.....some months.

I get bombarded with the service reminders from the dealers, which come at the same time as the MOT as I usually do both at once.

The French MoT test just became mandatory for motorcycles, quads and unlicensed cars* over here after the two year repeal of enforcing the EU directive was deemed unconstitutional.

The French biking associations had deemed that only 0.3% of serious motorcycle accidents being caused by faults on the motorcycle was sufficient evidence that an MoT test (Contrôle Technique) was needed.

First CT is required after the vehicle is 4 years old and then repeats every 2 years after that.

* Yes, that’s a thing here. If you can’t get a licence, but are not medically disqualified from driving, you can drive a little tin box powered by a 600cc diesel engine which will do 45 kph. The insurance is high, but courts are loathe to permanently ban even the worst drivers out here in the sticks where there is zero public transport and taxis are ruinously expensiv.

It passed with many colours flying.

Managed to get a proper look underneath the car too when on the ramp, health and safety said no chance, beer money made that "what's health n safety, here's a torch". Car is in great shape underneath which at 20K miles and a couple of road damage / detritus issues I was pleased to see. All tyres spot on, no damp spots anywhere, no significant marks or damage.

All set for the Ring!

I'm just looking for a bit of advice from the MOT testers in here - I had my car stolen the other day and I'm having to find a cheap short term car, but only have a budget of about £2k as I'm just in the process of buying a house - What kind of car based on MOT failures would you recommend at that kind of cost/age?

Sorry for taking over the thread with my own question, but it seemed a sensible place to get this kind of advice!
