Big 4 now the Big 5?

There is no "big 5" in the league.
You are pushing it to even have a "big four" you can just about justify "the big three" in regards to the Prem.
Because in all honesty, Liverpool and spurs dont have a chance, because if united dont take it Chelsea will and Arsenal after a bit of tweaking are still easily a better league side than liverpool.

:D

I would say its more of a "big 3" now rather than a "big 5". Spurs come improved over the last couple of seasons but at the same time Arsenal have gone backwards. Arsenal have now dropped to the same tier as Spurs imo.

Maybe, last season could have been more because they lost Henry and Van Persie. Losing both your best strikers would wreck anyone's season.

We'll see, I'd like to see Arsenal (and Spurs) pushing the other 3 this season.

Well I was extremely bored today so I did this, I originally planned to do 20 years but thought what the hell I'll do 30 years. Below are the final positions for each of the last 30 seasons in the top division for what I see as the current top 8 teams in England. I thought it was interesting that in the last 30 years Liverpool haven't finished below 8th and I'm sure that stat goes back much longer. (Go on Baz give me the figure you statto you! :p)

Interesting to see Spurs have had only 3 top 3 finishes in 30 years, the last being in 1989/90

Updated one to include Aston Villa and Leeds who have won the top division in the last 30 years, thought they deserved a mention too.

As A Newcastle supporter I belive we can certainly break the top 4 but not for at lest 2 years. The 2 years will be spent building a sqaud and geting fitness up. It a time of change at newcastle with a clear out of the old gaurd. Dyer ect shall be leaving and to unwork the last 2 managers and Fatfred shoddy work.

Spurs really have to move and shake next year show what they can do after last years poor season

Thing what most Newcastle fans don't seem to realize is all the teams above them are also strengthening and improving. The only teams they can catch are Arsenal & Spurs really and both have young squads and will be improving rapidly over the next 2 years.... faster than Newcastle imho.

2 years? Only if Wenger or Jol leaves AND fat Sam does a good job ;)

I haven't heard any Spurs fans complaining about last season saying it was poor  Ok it wasn't a barnstormer and didn't win a cup but we did progress from the previous season, we played an extra 21 games for a start :) Again it's a very young squad who will be much stronger this year due to what they've learnt in the past 2 years. More experienced, stronger both mentally and physically, hungrier for silverware, aswell as strengthened by £30m+ worth of new talent and more on the way.

What you also got to realize we strengthenen our sqaud with better players as we can pull in bigger names pay higher wages. Players want to play infront of 52,000 fans.

Our Transfer dealing this season has been impresive for the money spent and the talent we got. Also our list of young players like zog/mils/Talyor/Edgar/Huntington/Carroll/Krul is very impressive . And Big Sam saying he wants 4 new faces in before the transferdeadline we will be a force and will be no rollover for the top 3

Edit: Also our backroom staff and the way the club is being run is changing for the better. Our Club is growing not just the Sqaud

Don't agree at all. Spurs will find it considerably easier attracting top players, simply because of being based in London. Players (foreigners particuarly) don't want to go to the north east.

Agreed. There's also a trap Newcastle fall into and have done many times before (though I do think Big Sam will sort a lot of this out ;))

What I'm talking about is mercenaries. Newcastle can out bid Spurs right now in terms of wages as we have a very strict wage structure in place. I believe Robbie Keane is our top earner on about £50k a week. Newcastle have very average squad players earning more than that I bet lol!

Thing is when the going gets tough, you've had players there purely for the money and just weren't interested in the club and have let you down. Now I know all clubs get this upto a point but it's exaggerated at Newcastle. Big wages guarantee you nothing, what have Owen and Dyer done for you? (both on £100k+ a week?)

Just to back that point up a bit. Darren Bent turned down £70k+ a week at West Ham for £40k a week at Spurs, both teams are in London. Spurs are currently an attractive side to join ;)

Where talking bout Westham here. Did newcastle go in for Bent? Our castoff Parker din't want to go to them but he was forced out the door to pave way for Barton

In my opinion, Newcastle just need one season of genuine success to act as the blue touch paper.

Off the pitch, a monstrous club with the perfect infrastructure to be a real giant.

If they had won the league in the mid 90's, I'm pretty sure they would have pushed on and become a far greater success, but after the second season of finishing runners up, their spark seemed to die.

I don't believe the current squad can wish for anything more than top 6 or 8 at the moment - if Viduka gets a good start and his confidence is high, he can be a real asset.

The sooner they are rid of Dyer, the better.

You missed the point...

Point being Westham got cash but not attractive side to join?

Spurs an attractive side to join but not got big bucks?

Newcastle got both?

Duff a fine example the poor lad been out most of the last season though injuries found it hard to get back to back games yet he labelled as a mercenary.

Dyer a merc? He hardly been off our treatment table yet when he back fully fit he in the England squad, He showen good form last year but diped away last stage of the season

Owen? Meh Gods knows what he up to

They really haven't.

The only "top player" that chose to go to Newcastle was Shearer, as it was his home town club. Owen only joined because nobody else wanted him and thats about it for top players at Newcastle in the last 10 years.

ok name a top player who sign for spurs ?

Berbatov was quite an unknown. He was also very inconsistent player showing flashes every other game at his former club before going to spurs?

He just improve his game leap and bounds since going to them.
