I'm split in 2 whether to get these da bomb hubs, I'd love hope pro 2 but they are too expensive and I cant find another front hub that is compatable with 20mm or QR, and there are no reviews of the da bomb head spin

Personally i'd save and get the pro 2 hubs, they arent gonna break on ya to be honest and hub spares are available from hope very easy.

To finish my bike i need a seatpost, seat, front hub + wheel build and a set of pedals.

Seatpost and seat is £62
Front hub is £45(£50 from shop)
Wheel build is £15+
Might have to work something out for decent pedals(could get V8s from work....but i want pedals at £50)

any other hubs that are compatable with 20mm and QR?
is crc the cheapest place online for wheel building?
are the hope pro 2 hubs the ones that dh riders use because I love that click sounds :)

Hope and Halo are the only ones i know of which do QR and 20mm Axle on the same hub. But my knowledge is crap so there may be more. DH do use the Hope Pro 2's, very strong hub, reliable and spares are easily avilable. They do sound awesome when clicking!

As for wheel building try:

Theres a few hubs out there that can, some obscure makes aswell. Havent got time to look myself but there is some.

CRC are ok but i've heard hit or miss comments about the strength of the builds, personally i would buy the hub and rim and get a highly rated wheelbuilder to do it. I have a 729 rim and im buying a pro 2 and getting it built at a shop in glasgow.

It would be V12 mags(not sure because i have had v8/12s for years and the black paint wears out fast) or shimano dx(mx30s) but i want black pedals. :( Easton flatboys are a possibility as are funn soljam vipers(highly recomended).

edit: the loud hubs tend to be bulbs, pro 2s are a bit quiter(less pawls or ratchers i think) but the best is chris king....omg you know when one of them is around. One of the xc guys up glentress said it lets you know when your being lazy lol.

right o I'm probably now goingto get a pro 2 on the front. bloody ocuk making me spend more dosh. but I've just realised  thats the pro II rear hubs are 110 pounds which is ridiculous, and the deore hub is nicely priced so will it stand up to dirt jumping?
whilst I'm saving up I'm going to jump on my alex DP17 rims, I've been told they are too weak for dirt jumping so I'm well miffed

aha I've found the wheels I want now. I dismissed the halo combat sas wheels ages ago but just came back to look at them and it seems the front hub is compatable with both 20mm and QR :D = one happy chappy. anything to be made know to me about this wheelset?

Its changable but you have to buy the 20mm version and then buy the cups that make it QR if im thinking straight.

I dont like deore hubs as they are a cup and cone hub......cones come loose a lot on the ones i have come across. At the bare minimum get a decent sealed bearing hub and it makes life easier.

The quando(cheap cheap cheapppppppp) hubs are cup and cone and you can feel how rough they are when they spin......my old trailpimp wheels spin forever as the bearings are soooo ******* smooth!

You say combat SAS wheels? Stay away from halo combat rims if you can.....these gave halo a bad name. They are heavy and arent supposed to be that strong(mate had a set on his bighit) but the halo SAS rim is very good and highly rated.

I got an SAS front wheel with Halo Hub on my Orange 222 at the moment.. Its acutally stronger than a 729 lol.. Heavy though! Really good wheel. As for the deore hub being used for dirt jumping.. it would be ok for now, but i cant see it lasting to be honest.

nah I'm going to get these SAS ones, the guy said I can have one of the 48 spoke pairs if I ask when I've bought it.
Some time this week I'm going to make my dirt jumping debut on lyme valley jumps:
can be seen in the background here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KnDhGUa4dg
I hope my wheels stand up to that one session :( :( please tell me they will

Damn those wheels will be heavy in 48 spoke.......a good build with 32 spokes is enough never mind 48!

Those jumps just look like small tables with the centres taken away. Your wheels will be fine for that.
