Homemade bash and tensioner. Water bled maggies. Awsome!

And please no 'wheres your seat mate?' comments!!

And yes, that is a flat front tyre too! Happens a little too often in trials...

Looking for some help with a new bike build. I've been looking at the Merlin webiste, and I am trying to put together a decent Hardtail (a little bit of commuting) with some decent specs I have so following so far;

Frame: Rocklobster Tig Team SL aluminum
Fork: Reba SL
Brakes: Formula Bianco
Rear Mech: SRAM 0.9
Front Mech: Shimano XT
Shifters: SRAM 0.9
Stem: Thomson Elite x4
Handlebars: Easton EA70
Chainset: Shimano XT
Pedals: Shimano 540
Seatpost: Thomson Elite
Saddle: SDG Bel Air RL Ti
Wheel: XT hubs/MAVIC 717 rims
Tyres: Panracer FIRE XCs

Does this look ok? any suggestions? or is this overkill?

I'd go for the 853 not the Tig. Slightly heavier but a much comfier ride.

For those that didn't recieve a direct invite, Fozzy from the WTB forums has started up another forum as I don't think a single person likes the new bikegaydar forums.
Pop along to http://www.mountain-biking.me.uk and sign up.

How much does the Bikeradar forums suck?

I am off to the Peak District for some serious MTB riding this weekend. The only problem is it is soooo wet I had to fit Winter tyres! :(

This resulted in me destroying two inner tubes as I didn't notice that one of the tyres had a thorn in it. Why didn't I check? They have been in the shed for months so I have no idea where this thorn came from. I nearly put a new tube in, thankfully the wife stopped me and repaired the two tubes I punctured. All is OK now, just need the weather to stay good so I can get the wife on her first black route! :)

You cut the gussets off the headtube area?

Home made tensioners are the way forward! Simple, easy to make and it just wont break!

I threaded my longer stem, put the short one on temporarily.... a month ago! I keep meaning to get new bars + stem, but im loving the little stem, feels more responsive! And i think is helps me gap further too...!

Im not sure about the gussets, i bought it second hand, there is no sign of a struggle around the headtube! I think it is the Mk1 levelboss, around 2003ish?

Ive yet to cut anything off this bike, dont really care about the weight.. and im not just defending my questionable choice of a big'un hub.... oh no. :D

Yeah, that must be a right ball-ache to get onto the back wheel, front end looks very low.

New stem next on the list, and if i do that i may as well get new bars and then new grips! And im trying to save up for a new graphics card!

Im quite fond of the low front end, my lower back disagrees tho!! :)

Ouch that looks like it may have stung slightly, quick question for you as you live in wolves do you ever ride cannock chase? and if you do what do you think of it? Im planning on taking my trek back to uni with me in september and was just wondering if it would be worth a journey over to cannock with it

Yeah I try to get over the chase at least once a week. Usually after work. I normally do Follow The Dog rather than riding round the chase. The Dog is a good laugh it’s got a bit of everything in it but nothing really taxing.

Couple of pics of it nice and clean! Going back to its rightful owner sometime in the next week.
