I went to this place called Brayton Barf today, its a big hill and woods with an underground lake or something that is fenced off at the top, anyway, we have a ride around that on the dirt track/footpath, was quite fun apart from everyone walking there dogs, and then we thought we would go down a big hill, now I did not go from the top, I went about 4 meters from the top because I thought it was abit too risky with no helmet or pads or any sort of protection, so I went down it once, was ok, then second time I went down again, except 2 meters higher, and I went down like an idiot with my legs hanging down, chain came off, god knows what happened to the derailer or w/e it's called, I managed to fix it, but since then the gears aint been right.

Decided to take some pics, not the best quality tho.

That was before I went down the second time.

I have deore front mech and shifters, XT rear.
Is it worth upgrading these, to XT for better performance, or shall I go XTR on all including rear mech.
was told it might be doing rear cassette and chain from the standard Kula items aswell while I am at it.
I want super smooth gears changes if I can.
Any advice would be most welcome.
heard the new 2008 is very good.

SRAM :p

Can you tell me why SRAM over XTR or XT, whats the difference.

Its personal preference really. I have XT on one bike, and X.9 on the other. To me, the X.9 feels more direct and snappier, when I change its there straight away. They are a bit louder though.

Shimano is probably 'smoother', but I like that SRAM is faster.

1996 Kona Lava Dome - spec is utilitarian, but i can buy 5 deore bits or one XTR, and i know which i'd rather break
