Please don't wear those things, are you planning on wrestling another man?
What's wrong with riding shorts underneath normal boardshorts or something!

Men in Lycra should be banned to the the inner sanctum of hell, reserved for Hitler, men who wear pink shirts

I can understand it if you race, or travel immense distances.... but for normal road use that's just disgusting

What are you afraid of? Embrace the spandex joy! Also there is nothing wrong with a nice under-stated pink shirt, only with a suit though.

so which the DHBs ? and are those tyres ok?
also I need some new spud shoes, I ride on flats when no trails but want to train on roads with SPDs, I have the pedals just grown out of my shoes,
recommendations please, I'm doing this on the cheap :p

cheers

They also hold the pad in place better and certainly prevent anything ever falling down which is something less to think about. Apparently they have the added bonus of helping to hold in a belly as well, spare tyres rolling over the top of shorts isn't a good look :D

Everyone on my club rides wears bibs so must be some sense behind it.

From that post I deduce that you ride with this lot:

SOMEONE SWAPPED THEIR ZIMMER FRAMES WITH MOUNTAIN BIKES!
:D

Anyone else going to the completely unpronounceable and "google it first so i can get the spelling right" nissan qashqai challenge this weekend?

Hey guys

Thinking of picking up a Hardtail in the sub £800 bracket. How are DMR's? Anything you'd recommend instead?

Edit: Freeride mostly. I dont do enough of anything to warrant a specialist bike :) I have a BMX for throwing around the town.

Just got myself a commuter as my commuting distance would 6 fold starting July, for a bargain of £145 and it is brand new. I also couldn't stand the worry of my MTB getting stolen when I leave it around town.

It's an Raleigh airlite 200 (07) and is actually fairly crap, Sora derailer/shifters, Tektro brakes, and the rest are no name stuff. The big let down is that it has a freewheel  So it means new hub when it comes to new cassette time. Not bad for commuting and going around town though. So far, I had to change the brake pads as the stock ones are made of grease. I also had to swap the layback for an inline seatpost from my MTB as the top tube is slightly too long . Also bought a cheapo pair of 2nd hand SPDs as well.

Unfortunately, I had an off on my MTB on Saturday which left a 3"x4" bruise on my chest. The annoying thing is it is causing me difficulty in breathing and the GP said it's going to take a month to heal. So no MTBing for 2 weeks then :(

But after commuting a few times on the new bike, just couldn't believe how much more efficient a road bike is, even such a cheapo one. It took no effort at all to finish my commute in the same time as on my MTB, even with difficulty breathing.

Anyway, my small but growing family:

Just built up my GT Avalanche 1.0 tonight, unfortunately couldn't go for a ride as it was too dark and I had no pump to blow the tyres! My GF also got a ladies GT but a cheaper alternative.

Spooky. I have a 2006 Avalanche 1.0 Disc and the wife has a 2006 GT Avalanche 3.0.

We have now outgrown them and are moving into road cycling more and more and hitting big distances so will be moving to matching* road bikes, probably Trek 1.7 or Giant SCR1 or 1.5 (I am in love with the Trek)

* She has borrowed mine to go to work a few times, prefers it and says when we upgrade we should have the same bike so we are equal.

If your after pure road shoes, then Wiggle do DHB R1's. Cheap but good with fittings on the bottom for al the SPD's cleats, time and look cleats.
Got a pair couple of weeks ago and they make a big difference.

Got my bike back today, and been out on it.

Having, ah, learned a fair bit in the past few weeks about bikes and looking after them, after I got back, I had a good look at everything, in particular the brakes.

Thought the brakes were a bit shoddy, so I pulled the cables through a bit, which helped a little, but still not very good.

Took the wheel out and popped the pads out, and sure enough, they're completely worn... whoops. Now, it's been over a year since I got it, and the pads haven't been changed.

The brand is 'Unique', and I can't find any discernible model number or anything on there, they're just completely black callipers, with 'Unique' written in white.

Now, with my best googling and browsing of shops, I can't find any new pads for them. (you try googling for "unique brake pads".. rather vague :p)

Bearing in mind that this is only a £200 Claude Butler Pagan, am I going to have any luck whatsoever getting some new pads?

Other than that, everything seems fine. Apart from my arse. Might treat myself to a new saddle :p

Cheers once again.
