Agreed get rid of the tyres....

:)

Any tyres in particular you would recommend? I have read a few people don't like the tyres for offroad, so I may well invest in some different ones.

I have already instructed the shop to put on some road tyres initially so I can test out the comuting times.

Also - what gear should you be taking with you on a ride? Multi tool, inner tube, energy bar, CamelBak etc etc?

Popular tyre choices are Maxxis High Rollers and Kenda Tomac Nevegal DTC (I went for these). Latest MBUK suggests that the Intense System 4 C3 if the best all round tyre to go for. You probably wont be dissapointed with any of them.

I picked up some bits for the Heckler today. Sram Attack shifters are getting replaced by these:

Blackspire Maggy's have been replaced by some Crankbrothers Candy SLs:

Those look like Eggbeaters ;)
I've been running SL's on my AM bike for a year and they are superb - light weight, very easy clip in and still going strong.

Ive managed to get a new X7 rear shifter cheap enough.

So its onto getting a new front mech now.

Not too sure what to get. There are top and bottom pull versions. Also different sized flavours. Sram or Shimano, doesn't matter. Aslong as it works with a X7 shifter.

Evancycles do have a Sram X9's for £19.99 which seem to be bargin.

Can anyone help?

Its a Shamino of some sorts. Not really sure what model.

Its jammed or the spring has gone. No movement what so ever in it. Tbh I never use it. It was over the winter months when we had really bad / cold weather when it stopped working.

Shimano! I like SRAM, there's something much more solid about their shifting, but they've never made a front mech that's as good as the cheap Shimano ones. They're well priced mind but Shimano is the thinking man's front mech.

Even the cheap ones will do the job... I went with XT since they're not too expensive, and they don't often break so no reason not to spend a few more pennies, but LX is really not significantly worse.
