Anyone tried a Giant Trance X2?

I fancy a full sus, something not too heavy for a day out in the peaks but strong enough with a bit of travel for trail centres and stuff.

The X2 seems to fit the bill pretty well, 27lbs, 5" travel Fox suspension, XT and XTR drivetrain, and Pedal On have got it for £1399...

Any other suggestions would be good too..

Just happened to be looking through the last few pages and saw this video...
How are they not all dead? :|
It was cool to watch I guess but... Crazy fools!

Should see my commute to and from work! I would love to know how fast i could do it on a proper roadbike with no cars to slow down for no reason at roundabouts!

Right, Ive had a brief look around, does this parts list look ok?

Charge Blender - White
RS Revelation or RS Pike
Shimano XT Drivetrain (Chain, Crank, Cassette, Mech's, Shifters etc)
Avid Elixir CR or Avid Juicy Ultimate (Both in White)
Fizik Gobi (White)
Thomson Seatpost
Wellgo MG1's (White)
Continental Speed King Supersonic's

Im unsure about the wheels (rims, spokes, hubs), bars and headset.

I think Ive got pretty much everything covered.

Pointers in the right direction are always welcome :D

Without trying to offend, are you not overspending on the seatpost and seat? I know they're 'in', but there's plenty of much cheaper decent alternatives. I've also heard the Elixir CR are pretty bad in the reliability stakes, so might want to avoid them.

Wheels is easy, custom build hope or xt hubs with mavic xm717 or xm719 rims and dt db spokes!

Personally I'd probably also email Charge Bikes just to make sure they agree with your setup, fork, etc.

The seatpost, yes I could change it but the seat is supposedly very very good.

I do have a charge spoon atm, on longer rides it does get slightly uncomfortable. Im after something thats going to fair a lot better over longer distances without being too huge and ugly on the eye.

Would you recommend going with the Avid Ultimates then? How relaible are they? Whats been reported about the Elixir CR's?

Thanks :)

Have you tried the saddle at all? I know it gets rave reviews, but if it doesnt suit you, you're stuck with a £70 razor blade or selling at a loss.

I dont know anything about the Juicy Ultimates, cant remember where I heard it but the Elixir CRs have supposedly been returned in large numbers suffering from swarf in the reservoirs gumming them up. Might be something and nothing, worth researching though. My mate has the standard elixirs and is very happy with them, although he has also has a set of juicy 5s (same range as the ultimate) and they leak a lot.

I'm looking at rims on a few online shops. Do you get the spokes with them? If not where do you get them as they don't seem to sell any.

With rims, no, you buy them seperately. Check out chainreactioncycles.com, they have a decent-ish range. Although if you dont know anything about wheels you're much better off buying them in a custom built package or buying all the bits from your wheel builder.

I'd go Elixirs over Ultimates. Although personally I love the look of Hope brakes and keep thinking about changing my Codes to V2's on my FR bike.

I LOVE my Hope Tech X2s, I dont think I'll ever buy anything but Hope now.

Yeah, shame about the lack of price matching, I've asked a couple of times (to be sure) and both times the same answer: No, we dont need to :)

They had a price matcher on the site a few days ago. I also have an email from them saying they'll price match.

Here we go. Looks like it's only available on certain items. It's not there on this item. (above the picture if you can't see it :p)

Andi; I'm looking at the Trance X3, which also has some ridiculous savings. The only thing holding me back is whether I really need it to go with my Vagrant.

I was looking at the V2's and X2's. Id prefer the look of the X2's. I was just being fussy about wanting brakes with white levers :p

I have no issues doing anything on the Vagrant, it's just a bit heavy (which I'm remedying with some lighter wheels). The big tyres take a fair amount of sting out of the rocks, so the only real benefits are a bit more climbing traction and slightly smoother drop-offs.

I think I'll wait until I've been on holiday and see if they've still got any in stock.

Dont forget how ugly the vagrant is :p What wheels are you building?

The Vagrant looks ace! How dare you say it's unattractive! :p

Got myself a new Pro2 SP/Stan's Flow front wheel, and purchase of a rear planned after pay day this month. There's about 400g weight differrence per wheel between them and the Deemax I've got now. The only thing is they're not yellow :(
