I'm off to the Peak District tomorrow. Anyone else going to be there or fancy meeting up? Maybe Ladybower - about 10.30am.

Chrissy, I've been there and gave up, it was a lot easier to have a seperate commuter/road bike, and not too expensive- I built myself a pretty good rigid mtb with slicks for under £100, also got my brother a used revolution courier for £100, either one's a far better tarmac basher than my hardtail was with slicks, not to mention less nickable. And it's nice to not be putting the wear and tear on the expensive mtb bits

Maxxis larsen TT

THE best tyre Ive had.

REALLY? Do you live somewhere with no rain? :D Worst tyre I've used for a decade, reasonable in the dry but even at glentress in the rain they just didn't grip, and glentress doesn't ask much of a tyre at all. I'd rather have been on a semi-slick, at least one of those wouldn't have insisted in throwing so much of the trail into my face

Kenda's Small Block 8 is the same sort of idea, but it's faster, grippier in the dry and not quite as terrible in the damp. Winner of every summer tyre test this year, everywhere ;) I think you'd like it. Not as drifty though.

Having looked around i think i may end up doing the same - a set of Avid brake rotors is about £50 from CRC (!). Along with the other bits and bobs, this is going to be a £200+ venture - i think its probably better to put this towards a new bike/road bike.

I have found the Rockhopper to be okay for commuting - sure, you get overtaken by a few roadies now and then, but its satisfying when you zip past someone who is on a much more road friendly bike. Plus dragging a heavy MTB up 3 miles of hill has got to be good for the legs!

RS Pike 426. - On loan while Fox 36's are away getting serviced for the 2nd time this year.

Acros AH-06 Headset. - Precision German engineering, comparable with Chris King... allegedly. Certainly tighter tolerances when fitting compared to the Hope Headset it is replacing.

I will be getting the small block 8 come summer next year. The larsen isnt that bad. However, do you recommend me a allrounder tyre - looking for front and back.

Wouldn't like to pretend to be an expert... I use a Kenda Nevegal stick-e on the front and an Excavator DTC on the rear, both 2.1s... They're pretty good. Not fast but they grip well enough. Sometimes I use a 2.35 Nevegal on the front for extra root grip but it's a less good allrounder, heavier and slower. In really bad mud they're very skatey, mind, they're not mud tyres. Maxxis Highrollers are pretty similiar. Can't go too wrong with a tyre like this IMO.

But if you're really into bogsnorkelling, they're out of their depth, maybe a Medusa or Swampthing? The 2.3 Swampthing Supertacky is incredible, OK, it's like riding with the brakes on but it feels like it'll let you ride straight up a wall.

Quite enjoyed watching it and thought they did rather well considering how much practise they had.

The training crash at PORC could have been a lot worse, that is one nasty drop and is unsighted. The 4X track is a lot of fun but my skill level doesn't do it any justice.

I picked up my 21" Specialised Globe San Fran 1 S/S bike yesterday after trying the 19" the previous week that was far too small and rode it the 6 miles home from the shop - I love it!

I'm quite lucky at work as we have changing rooms, showers etc so I've brought a weeks worth of shirts in so I can ride my new stallion in to work and get changed and freshen up when I get here. It's only about 2 miles for a commute but I've got a massive country park with tarmac paths on the way home so I can take a diversion if I want to and add a few extra miles on.

Loving the single speed :)

It's so light and efficient, I thought short steep hills would be a problem but it's a not as difficult as I first thought.

I don't think I could handle a fixie though.

But it was a table wasn't it?

It's at the end of the 4X track, as you approach it looks like a small hump into a corner but the far side of it is actually a near vertical drop and catches you unawares. They both hit it too fast not expecting the track to just vanish from under them.

That's an insane price for the spec, and it looks pretty good too. You can see the Sunday influence in the frame, not that that's a bad thing :D
