I've only ridden Cannock once, but it's perfect for SSing and I was wishing I was on mine the whole time I was there.

Perfect for SS? Yeah if you have huge leg muscles...
I'm built like a whippet but even so the climbs are a bit much for no gears!

There are some nasty climbs on Follow the Dog that I certainly wouldn't want to try on a SS!
There is nothing big on FTD.
I'm using an 11-28 cassette and never use the granny ring.

All the Ultegra SL parts have arrived, will take pics later...plus a set of Fulcrum Racing 5s...so I will have a Wilier frame with Shimano Ultegra SL for my commuting (goodbye horrible Campag Mirage)...Ultegra SL parts are a bargain at the moment and they look nice.
The purists will be disgusted at changing to Shimano....

Some of use are fitter than others!
It's just the Fire Road climb that gets me but I have an excuse as a chronic asthmatic!

Yeah that's the bit I was thinking of. Also, the short right-curving fire road about 5 minutes after the chain slapper would be difficult for me without the granny ring

I know where you mean. Down the chain slapper onto the fire road for a bit and then it turns into a gravel ascent. Short but steep. That's where the old man overtook me.

Awaits people posting: "That's not a hill" - well you guy's don't have an average Peak Flow of 300! So

It's not really a bad climb, it's just a very loose surface which makes its awkward
