Can anyone recommend me a bike lock/chain ?

If your after a chain for home then only solution is an Almax chain.
The Fagettaboudit chain as mentioned can be bolt cut in 42 seconds.
Watched Almax nearly get booted out of the NEC bike show a few years ago as they were cropping "sold secure" chains in less than a minute. Quickest i saw cropped went in about 15 seconds and that was over £100 worth of chain.

All chains and locks and be cut pretty quickly, you just need a big enough pair of bolt cutters or an angle grinder. It's just about maiking yourself a harder target than the bike next to you.

U-locks are better than chains as far as cutting is concerned, and the shorter the U the harder it is to get leverage to break it.

I'd go with Smart water tagging for making it undesirable, add in a decent "short u-lock" that you cant any leverage into for when your outside and then an almax for home security.

Broke my brake lever at BUCS :( had to pay £35 for a new one!

I can't understand how they can be that much. Got it from CRC and literally it was just a piece of metal in a tiny plastic bag.... crazy.

How did you get on? I arrived too late on the Saturday to get both practice runs in so wasn't allowed to race but did pretty good in the xc sport considering I was riding 36-16 singlespeed.

FSA SLK Carbon Light crankset (2007) you are awful!!! Hardly any miles on it, put it on my commuter, firstly it comes loose, loads of Loctite, and now it has more flex than a rubber band!

Picked up a 53/39 172.5mm Ultegra SL chainset with Ultegra 6700 BB for £120, yes £120, from Evans. Gotta love corporate 10% discount!

Ultegra SL OEM parts are dirt cheap at Evans at the moment.

RMA'd my Codes for the second year running. I think I'll just sell them when they come back from warranty. Hope V2's are top of the list, Wiggle seem to have a decent price on them.

Oh dear, while checking my bike over as i normally do before a ride, i have noticed cracks and splits in my stem around the bolt areas that clamp to the steerer, so it would appear im out of action till i replace it, but what with? The stem at present is the one the bike came with in 08 lol no idea what it is, bike is a Commencal Combi Disc 08, so can anyone suggest a decent Stem as cheap as possible.

Hate quoting myself, but anyone got any input on above question. Ive looked around but its a damn mine field lol, so anyone with first hand experience with various ones would be nice.

As you say it's a minefield, there are hundreds of combinations of length, rise, clamp size etc.

Measure the length of yout current stem, were you happy with the riding position before it cracked? If so, you're looking for something in a similar size, otherwise you can go longer or shorter. Most people these days prefer a slightly shorter stem which quickens steering response, but can make the bike feel 'twitchy' at high speeds. A longer stem is more stable at speeds but more of a handful in the twisty bits.

As for brands, depends how much you want to spend. Hope & Thomson are really nice but pricey, you can get plenty of cheaper alternatives from Easton, FSA, Race Face (although all these do more expensive ones too).

Chainreaction Cycles is a good place to start looking.
