Does 6th not use an Ardent on his 29r XC bike? But yeah, I know where you are coming from now. :)

There in lies the difference as well, as above XC tyres can come in 2.4 and there are XC versions of the Ardent, but a 2.4 Dual Ply Ardent is definitely downhill specific and (having just checked) extremely heavy at 1.2kg per tyre. They do make a 2.4 single ply folding ardent, which if he really wanted a 2.4 could be an option, but he'd be better off with the 2.25.

You really don't want to be putting DH tyres on a bike if it's not a DH/FR bike. They're way too heavy, ergo slow for a bike you're pedalling a lot.

Morning all,

Just a quick "hypothetical" question, if i was in the market for an
upgarde to my forks (Standard on a Marin Bolinas Ridge ( Spinner 300, 100mm with Lockout))

What sort of fork would i be looking at to make it a worthy upgrade (without breaking the bank) for an (albeit slight i imagaine) improvement in weight and / or performance

Thanks

Andy

I would consider 2nd hand, budget is not set in stone i really don't
know how much i would have to pay to get an upgrade that
was sort of my enquiry.

Cheers

Andy

Red wine + eBay :) !

I thought that court order said you had to stop spying on me!

I've taken a risk on the sizing, but I'm feeling pretty confident considering I swapped the 120mm stem on my Ribble for a 90mm this morning and the bike felt so much more confortable. Knocked 7 minutes off my best time for my 17 mile commute.

Yes!!!!!

TNT courier just turned up with my new Cube Acid. :D

Pics in a bit once I've assembled the thing!.

*EDIT* Quick question - What side is the QR for the front skewer supposed to go on?. The wee fold out Shimano guide thingy that came with it says install the skewer on the right side of the front fork so it doesn't interfere with the brake disc. But looking online at pics of other Acid's it looks like most of those have the QR on the side with the brake disc, which would be the left side?.

Jump on the bike... the LEFT side is your left side as you sit on the saddle. (The Brake Disc side).
Always seen QR's on the LEFT side... can't see how it would interefere with the brake disc my self.... :)

What do you want to do with it?
Those are 2 very different bikes
Everything ;)
I rode a SS at a demo day in Afan last year - fell in love with it. It went UP and boy did it go down :D The only thing I'm having trouble with is the price - £2k for the frame! It'll take a bit more saving that's all. (although there Finance that's an option)

I've always liked the SX Trail frame - seen it do what the SS does - seems a good allrounder.

Basically - I want a Do-It-All bike. I like my trekking, and rambling with a bike, I like the DH, FR, AM and everything below and inbetween. And there's always room for improvement in my fitness.
And I want a frame only so I can build it with what I want. I don't want to be told what I'm getting as such - follow me? Also, I'm not too sure that I want to go down the DualCrown fork route - whatever my next bike is it'll have Van36's I imagine.... :)

Edit: I've always preferred the low back end / high top end style riding. Like my current steed is. I rode a Stumpy Expert at a CwmCarn Demo Day - not a nice word to say about it! :D
