 The Crush is a great looking bike!

IceAx - go for it mate, I'd be straight in there if I were looking for a new hardtail. Nothing in the spec you'd need to change and it's made right here in the UK.

Hardtails are made in the far east aren't they?

Hey guys i'm looking for a new bike but i'm not sure what.

I had a Specialized hardrock Pro disc '07 model which i got for £350 just as the '08 models were coming in so it was a great price. Unfortunatly this got stolen over easter so i could do with a new bike for over summer and beyond.

Looking for something similar to what i had but my budget is ideally ~250 so second hand/old model seems likely.

I just got my bike back from a service. Its running very smooth, but the guy in the shop recommended quite a few replacement parts, namely the chain, cassette and the middle and large front chainrings.

The bike is an 09 Specialized Rockhopper Comp that I have had for a little under a year. The drive train is entirely Shimano, but I think it is all below-Deore in terms of quality. I would estimate that I have done about 1500-1600 km on the bike, both on and off road. In that time I have done very little maintenance - just cleaning and re-greasing, which I have done fairly regularly. The chainrings and cassette don't look too bad to me (certainly do not look like they are particularly 'hooked'), and I was under the impression that most of these parts would last a lot longer (~3000 miles)? How often do these parts need replacing?

I find that chains/cassettes need replaced after about 1000 miles for me (fairly well looked after, lubed frequently and completely degreased and re-lubed every month or so). Get yourself a chain wear indicator that checks how much your chain has been stretched.

Leaving a worn chain on is not good practice and will wear out your chainrings. If you replace your chain/cassette when your wear indicator tells you, then your chainrings will usually last a lot longer.

I don't recommend going for a ride with single track and some DH descents before you are getting the brakes bledd after the ride... its cost me 2 fudged legs and afekking front wheel. (rim) £ lots :(
The thing is last year I fell off in Chamonix and the front went square. now this one, AND I know that I'll probably have an issue out in Morzine in 6 weeks. oh god, the Mavic 717's are iether made of cheese or I cant ride.

off to a BBQ to chill.
before I limp off, can you recommend me a light strong rim? the 717 was on a Hope pro 3 hub which im obviously keeping.

Thanks for your advice - I think perhaps I need to consider some replacement parts!

Maybe a daft question?

Ive got a Enduro SL Carbon which has a few scratches and chips to the top coat.

Is it possible to powder coat a carbon frame

Would i cause any damage to the frame from the prep work with it being carbon?

Thanks

I'd try and look to see if it's possible to touch up / polish what you have atm, painting could add un-necessary weight

anyone care to guess what it is??

Didn't realize it was electro statically applied.

OK spraying it...would the prep work damage the frame at all.

Thanks

The only way you would be able to paint it is by getting a car painter to do it someone who maybe does carbon fibre body parts like on a trevor. But it will be a long and costly job stripping the frame down and removing the current lacquers. What about just buying some copter tape and putting that on?
