Bit of an open question weescott, but what's it like to ride? Just seen the price of the 2011 frame with RP23 and it's got me thinking.

I'm coming from a hardtail, so how would I find this on trails like Cannock or similar? Can you usefully pedal one of these up a muddy hill?

I'm thinking 2x10 with some Revelations up front running at 150mm.

The heckler is an awesome bike, climbs and descends really well and the new price makes it a bargain! I ran mine with a 170mm up front and it hammered everything I could throw at it.

Some xc trails can seem a bit 'easy' on the Heckler. If you are planning a trail build then 140/150mm forks would be ideal. I have tried everything from 100 to 160mm up front.

The rear can flex a little bit but shock set up is crucial for a single pivot bike. The Heckler needs a platform shock and pro pedal has a noticable advantage on climbs. Switch pro pedal off and you have to be very smooth on the climbs or it will bounce away. I seriously recommend a coil shock though.

It's a perfectly capable climber but is never going to be that quick.

Interesting... I'm not an XC whippet by any means so I'm not looking to overtake people uphill, so as long as I can haul it up the slopes without too much trouble then point it downhill convincingly then I think it could be contender.

I'd definitely go for the RP23 upgrade to begin with, although coil could be an option somewhere down the line.

Is the 2011 frame standard 1 1/8" or tapered?

Troute Mini – 1200 LUMEN
2 XPGs / 2 XPEs

1200 lumens High, 600 lumens on Medium, 200 lumens on Low

Available as bar mount or helmet mount
it uses a 7.4 volt 5.2 amp hour lithium ion battery pack

approx runtimes are
2.5 hours on High, 6 hours on Medium, 20 hours on Low

Just won one of these :D :D :D

Yep, the only downside to the Heckler is it is a little old tech now with as 1.1/8" headtube and QR rear with no replaceable dropouts.
I'm not too fussed about it being 1 1/8" to be honest, some good deals on Revelations through Merlin at the moment with standard steerer.

Am I right in thinking you can only get the frame in black or green though?

It says 'only' on their 2011 Price List but then gives powdercoat options just below

Asked this in GD, didn't realise this really came under sport, so thought I'd ask it in here now as well!

Hi,

Just starting regularly cycling to and from work, to get some more exercise in, save some money and cut down my journey time. After some near misses, and my parent's car having the wing mirror rather damaged by a cyclist, costing a few hundred quid to repair, What options are there for biclcye insurance?

My bike is apparently covered under our home insurance, so I'm more looking for just personal liability. If I were to accidently knock off someone's mirror, I'd offer to pay for it, but a few hundred quid is a bit of a stinger.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

I'm not adverse to yellow actually, but I'm 6'4 so need a large (well XL technically but I prefer a slightly smaller frame).

My current bike is mostly white, so I'm thinking stealth black this time around.

Your contents insurance may well have personal liability.

Ive just changed my pads in my juicy 5's.....Problem is one of the pistons was stuck which i managed to free in the end but pretty much lost all the brake fluid doing it.

The piston seems fine and as gone back in ok....Ive ordered a juicy bleed kit which ive not received yet but have the 5.1 fluid.

Is there anyway of me filling the brakes without the bleed kit?..its just im supposed to be out riding tomorrow but with no rear brake its not looking good.

Thanks
