And I thought some of the parts on my bike were bling! 4Ti egg beaters!!!! How much are they...300quid? AX lightness...another 300?

Pic from today....was boiling. I need to strip and change the bearings since i have a bit too much sideways play. :o

Those gay ass wheels are getting took off when i get my trailpimps built!

I did a wetish ride on tuesday, and then left the bike to dry out for 2 days, went on a ride today and when I use the front brake, it makes a horrible sound and the front seems to judder a bit, I dont know whether this is the fork or brake. its sounds like someone rattling a wodden stick down some metal fencing. my brakes are hayes sole and my forks are suntour xcr (bike is a genesis core 1.0 )

thanks

Have you checked your QR is tight and you have no play in the wheel? Does the disk rotor sit equally between the two pads? I take it the pads are new?

are the bolts that hold the rotor to the hub tight?

I'l check the bolts on the hub thats about all i can do :p I've never had disk brakes before ...
whats QR ?

ta

The QR lever, the thing that holds your wheel on.

Most dodgy vibrations come from the pads not being equally spaced. Look down on the caliper and rotor pull the lever and see if the rotor bends quite a bit.

ahh quick realease get ya now :p I'll give it all a check in the morning I take it you know the sorta rattle I'm talking about then ?

yeah i got this problem too! , my rotors bends a bit, how do i equally space the pads???

BTW, im using promax cable discs.

Thanks

I thought cable discs only pulled one side of the caliper and the other doesn't move.. Is that right?
Most do, (a couple don't though) but you can adjust the other pad, best to have it ~1 mm away from the rotor.

so with cable discs, only one of the pads gets moved, pushing the rotor to the other pad, but they should be close enough that the rotor gets little movement? is that right?

well you can't have the fixed pad too close, otherwise it will rub, so there needs to be a little bit of space between it and the rotor (as little as possible though).

kl, ive done that, but theres a bit too much leverage on the front brake
lever atm, how can it be adjusted so less leverage is needed, if i tighten the brake cable using the adjuster on the level, then it rubs with the disc? Any other way, i read somewhere that the start position of the lever can be adjusted, would this make any difference? Cheers

Id tighten the cable at the brake, then use the adjusters to get it spot on.

Sometimes when they are being a PITA i undow the cable pinch bolt at the caliper, unscrew the barrel adjuster right out(the one at the caliper) bolt the cable on with the disc locked and then screw the barrel adjuster back in until it stops rubbing.

Collisters Hayes sole both pistons can be moved which is good for setting them up.

Exactly what I do, just feeling a bit too lazy to type all that out :p.

Just wondering what you guys do when cleaning your bike?

I use Muc Off, but im never sure whether to completely wet & clean the chain, and re-oil or lube.

What do you guys do?

Fully clean & re-oil or lube?

Mucoff the frame.......rinse off etc then a polish with GT85.

Gears i use mucoff chain cleaner spray and rub it down with whatever i have handy(i.e brush set),apply a good coating of wet lube and then wipe the excess off with a rag.

When i can be bother i take the cassette off and give it a good soak and scrub, same with the chain(powerlink 4tw).
