LOL another choice shot down :D

Think ill give up and face the fact unless i'm prepared to spend more money im not going to get a decnt upgrade weight / performace wise.

Andy

Seriously, check out the deals on Rockshox forks on Merlin, there are some fantastically cheap forks on there. about as good a deal as you'll get.

5th out of 5 people is nothing to be pleased about 6th Element.:p jk. Well done.

I'll take it, just hoping to get 5 top 5 finishes this year so I can upgrade to Cat 1.

On a more annoying note my front Hope V2 is still backordered and I need it in < two weeks time.... :/

see above link for more details.

Horrible how I set out looking for a used DH bike for around £400-700 and I'm now looking at 2010 Stab Deluxes, has to be the worst sport for spending money :D

Unfortunately there's no DH bikes in that budget range - and given that Stab is £2K ish new, you can get a helluva lot more bike for your money for £2k

Expensive for the weight?
There isn't anything else cheaper that comes close to 1384g for the pair.
The only lighter production wheelset available is the DT Swiss XRC 1250 which come in at £1800 for the pair.

I'm using them for pure XC riding/racing

I'm not convinced; using those prices and weight estimates the cost and weight are at best almost equal (on paper) and probably worse with rim tape added and the wheels weighed once built.
My wheels use DT Aero Lite spokes which on the Freeborn website adds £170 to the wheel cost.

Freeborn link to my wheels : http://www.freeborn.co.uk/specialized-2010-controle-sl-disc-wheelset-1

Also who wants a wheel based around those dodgy noisy Hope Hubs :p

OK, add 20g to the below for rim tape for arguements sake.

ZTR Olympic for £369 is 36g heavier (1420g) or 1400g and 16g heavier with QR < These weights I can verify.
ZTR Crest for £369 is 20g heavier with Bolt through hub or the same with QR
ZTR Podium for £515 is 118g lighter with QR.

You are paying extra for the Carbon fibre hub and the Aerolite spokes which provide next to no performance gain over conventional spokes. They are nice don't get me wrong and you did get a good deal for what they are, just as well you didn't pay full price :p

Edit: Hope Pro 2's are great for scaring walkers on the trail. :p
