Looking for a bit of advice folks. Mate has just phoned me, he got his Cube Analog at the same time I got my Acid.

He was cleaning it yesterday using Muc off and afterwards when he was lubing the chain with some sort of PTFE type spray ( not sure what ) he got some on the rear disc. His rear brake isn't working now. He said he has removed the pads and roughed them up using sandpaper and also cleaned the surface of the disc but even at that the brake hardly works at all.

Any ideas?. Just replace the pads, when they get contaminated does stuff such as this soak right through the full thickness of the pad rather than sit on the surface?.

Ta.

Got a gas cooker hob? If so, hold brake pads with pliers, heat up pad until you see all the oil burning out of the pads (you will noitce the colour change of the pad) and bobs your uncle. Ive done this many times and it works every time :D

Mine is the full Alu, so I get to feel every bump in the road, but it's still pretty good and I don't feel too battered after 50 miles (carbon seat post helps).

You should fare very well with the rear carbon triangle.

Mine is a full 105 build. Excellent bike and good value without the price inflation of getting a 'names' bike.

That's what I figured, was tempted by the Boardman Team but the flexibility of the ribbles when it comes to specing them out is great.

My impatient side is somewhat regretting the decision however :(

I just got the bargain of the year, went into my LBS and wanted a new seatpost, i spied a Thomson Elite, went over and asked them how much, he scanned it and it was..........£25 brand spanking new, so slipped the card in the machine and tapped my pin in, then as i was walking out i heard them say it cant be the right price, im happy :)

Although my seat rails dont appear to fit into the grooves.

Who's your lbs and did they have any more?

be sure to wipe the disc with some brake cleaner or something similar too

Cheers. Mate was in his LBS this afternoon and they gave exactly the same advice - heat the pads up and clean the discs with something like brake cleaner or Isopropyl.

Those Thomson Elite seat posts, they are about £50-60 usually, right?. If so that was indeed a bargain at £25!!.

They are called Extreme Sports and was the only one they had, im sure it was meant to be marked at £52 not 25 lol but even on the register it was 25 so somebody had a real off day. As it stands i cant even fit my seat to it, rails just dont want to sit in the grooves at all.

My brakes might not turn up this week from wiggle due to the volcano screwing up air shipping

That sucks but I guess it's the government's fault :/

On a brighter note my bike should be with me tomorrow, but then it's coming with City Link so I'll be lucky if I get it by the weekend! :D

What brake cleaner do you use?

I got some of the Muk-Off brake cleaning stuff, in the aerosol spray and it seems to reduce my braking power for about 20minutes of riding before it returns to normal, or returns to slightly less than normal! (I can't tell...)

Is that normal do you think?

I use Brake and Clutch dust cleaner.. I get it thru work though, Halfords should sell it under the car section, it does not effect performance in anyways, so i dont know what you got?
