Appreciate the answers, I have no problem with pedalling my bike, but the people I know who are interested in the trip wouldn't want to be doing extended single track on their DH bikes trying to link stuff up and nor would I if I'm wearing my DH armour.

Think I made the wrong impression.
Some of the journeys between peaks and so forth, I reached 50MPH - no pedaling involved sir ;)

As Janessssssessyyy said before, the grading there is screwed. Some of the singletrack just on the way to Chatel, from Morzine for example, is better than any UK track I've ever ridden.

The French grading system is heavily road bike influenced, it is graded not on technicality but on effort involved. Some black runs (away from the alps) could consist of huge fire road climbs with a tarmac descent on the other side ...

I was thinking about going down to Dalby Forest next weekend, however i have never been before and am currently saving up funds for my new bike.

The bike i am currently riding is a Univega Alpina Racelite 500, with Michelin country Gravel tyres, nothing special at all but it serves its purpose for now.

Mmmmmm proper old skool :D

I'd say go for Dalby, can't advise on whether to do the red route or the next one down as I've only done the red. There's a few very technical spots, which you'd probably be best advised to walk with that bike. A lot of the trails are well built, hard ground compacted so tend to flow pretty well, some bouncy stuff that you might need to take a bit slower.

If you like the trails, then you know what to expect and can look forward to it when you get a bit better bike, see how much faster you can do them. :)

Quite looking forward to it now, the problem with riding an old bike is that i feel like i am gonna snap it all the time....im a heavy lad (18.5 stone) so when as i said earlier i push a bit too hard i am almost sure something's gonna give.

I suppose the worst thing is that i have the money just about saved up now for a new bike and i have ridden loads of different new ones at the LBS's but i dont seem to find anything that feels right, the closest was a Ridgeback MX5 2010, but something about it just wasnt quite clicking.

As for Dalby, any suggestions on where to park up, i dont really fancy spending £7 quid just to park the car up!

Also if you see it on the news that a useless fat lad had to be airlifted to hospital...it was me!

Does the money at Dalby not go back into funding the trails? I don't mind paying at trail centres, at least the moneys being used to provide something. Some of the car parks in the peak district take the pee though.

Sort of it goes into the FC's pocket, but £7 a pop is steep if you go a lot.
All users of Dalby get charged this, even if you off to the Go Ape and that makes it a rip off as they've got there own car park.

A year pass is like £38 or something like that.

£42 but it pays for itself very quickly within a year.

Didnt realise this, i dont mind paying if the money goes back into the system, just wouldnt agree with paying if it was like normal car parking fee's and more of a greed tax than anything else.

Decided i am going to Guisborough Woods tomorrow aswell, should be a good taster for what Dalby has in store for me.

Anyone know or had much use from Mavic or Sram wheels?
Trying to decide whether it's a worthy upgrade for my bike.
In particular looking at the Mavic Cosmic Elite vs. Sram S27.

Was there on Sunday - some cracking trails! If you find the man-made jumps buried deep in the woods, spot the one with the blue painted ramp.

I managed that one, didnt dare go for anything bigger!
