Ive just changed my pads in my juicy 5's.....Problem is one of the pistons was stuck which i managed to free in the end but pretty much lost all the brake fluid doing it.

The piston seems fine and as gone back in ok....Ive ordered a juicy bleed kit which ive not received yet but have the 5.1 fluid.

Is there anyway of me filling the brakes without the bleed kit?..its just im supposed to be out riding tomorrow but with no rear brake its not looking good.

Thanks

Cant you just top it up from the resv, ? get some tubing that'll fit over the bleed nipple and pump the brakes whilst filling it all up ?

I've only worked with Shimano Brakes*

You won't be touching your brakes unless you have 2 syringes, the right little red adaptor thingy's (that screw into the reservoir and calipers) and a little tubing.
Thats what come in the bleed kit - I have one for my Juicy7's.

You will NOT be able to just "top it up from the reservoir". You will need to bleed the entire brake line (Caliper > Hose > Lever) as opening the reservoir will introduce air into the system.

They are a pain to bleed first time, but once you've done it you'll know what to do.

I had a stuck piston on one of my calipers too so had to rebuild the caliper, simple enough though!

They DO RECOMMEND if you're introducing NEW brake fluid into a system after a caliper / lever rebuild, that you flush the ENTIRE system out with water first (it may say to use warm water / mild detergent - I can't remember) before bleeding the brakes.
I have the entire documentation (and its available on the SRAM website) here.

Just my two penneth :)

Hmm...just as a temp solution could i top up from the reservoir?

Then do a proper job once i get the kit?

It wont fix the problem as the air will most likely be trapped in the tube or caliper, the brake will need bleeding. You could try topping it up and putting a zip tie on the lever for a few hours to allow the air to rise up to the reservoir.

I wouldn't want to introduce water let alone detergent into the system. Yes to wash the outside to ensure you've neutralised the overspill from any DOT fluid.

Speaking of deliveries, this one took a while to reach me, check the posting date!!

Worth it though :)

I am now more concerned by IC's sig as I start to see a correlation between the colours used and the ones going on his bike.... So far we have Yellow, Purple, Pink and Black... Still to see Orange, Blue, Red, Green, White and a kind of Grey
