Have to say I agree with Scott... I cycled all through last Winter with shorts and it wasn't an issue. The only other stuff I wore was a long sleeve top with a t-shirt over the top, some gloves, a buff and something to cover my ears...
 
As for valve type - no idea. Only ever used Schrader as thats what the bike came with. No idea the pros/cons of each but TBQFH its a valve that puts air in your tyre and stops it from escaping so I REALLY don't worry about something so basic....
 
I have the Hummvee Shorts and rate them really high as well.... The padded undershorts initially feel a bit like a nappy but you dont notice it after a while and you can always remove them.

Not sure if the trousers have them?

I can only assume it's my fault. It's just weird, as I never used to have this problem and I thought I was lifting my weight away from the rear. :/

You aren't using specialized inner tubes are you?
I used to have mine snakebite on me even at 60PSI.

A really helpful trick is to put talcum powder in the tyre when you change inner tubes, just give it a light dusting all over. It stops the tube sticking to the inside of the tyre and bursting.

On another note, just had 2 Continental Der Kaisers turn up :D I ordered them on Friday from some German website and they're here already, unlike my CRC order which I also placed on Friday..

I've got a pair of Ron Hill bikesters that I wear occasionally and are much less revealing than tights. I'll tend to wear them or tights if I can't have a shower straight after riding as they help keep me a lit bit cleaner.

Richie, can you give me a linkto the ones you have? as i did a search but found multiple ones, so i am unsure which ones they are, thanks

In that price range I would look at a Specialized Hardrock, as the frame is good quality. Try get some skinny tyres on there if it has be be used on the road.

So basically what I said then :p

I got a good deal on my hardrock due to a crap listing and its still mint condition so can't see why it wouldn't still go for about £150 looking at current listings. It's a comp with deore gears + hubs etc and rockshox.

So basically go for the same bike again but in a bigger frame size and disc brakes!

Nope, it's still not "good for the road" usage. If you put super skinny wheels/tyres on there, then it's not good for the offroad at all - see where I'm getting at? ;)

At the minute I've these tyres and they seem a good compromise to me. I'm not exactly a hard core rider just casually to keep fit and like I say not real off road usage!

Then get a hybrid not a mountain bike.
