I am starting to see the attraction of trail centres. Just went out to do some local "trails".... When I say trails I mean dirt/mud single track through local woods which form a kind of figure of eight with my house being at the centre.

I did the first loop and just jacked it in when I went past my house. I just couldn't be ***** doing the 2nd loop as the first one pee'd me off so much.

Now don't get me wrong, I much prefer a natural type of trail but when you have to dismount every 30 seconds to climb over/under fallen trees and other un-jumpable objects?.... Well, it gets very boring very quickly. At least with trail centres, the action flows non-stop.

So after an hour of it I jacked it in :(

That's gonna happen with any flat pedal.

Could accept it if I'd bashed them on a rock and knocked them out, but it seems to have just fallen out, on only their second ride. Should have took Ed's advice when i got them and locktighted them in.

£10 for a new pack of pins.

How dangerous is it to ride on an untrue wheel?

You can see my wheels are 100% true - they very lightly rub the brake on one side.

I cannot true them anymore as the truing tool cannot get any grip on the spokes due to wear. What is the best option?

Tell me about it, it hasn't rained in 8 weeks here but man oh man it's hot!

Can't be bothered with riding in 30C temps ...

don't think it was quite up to that here though it felt it out of the wind, i don't have many rides where i want more head-wind but today was one of them lol.

omnomnom ice-cream time :D

It doesn't sound like they are badly out of tru. Just keep riding. ;)

Manned up and rode all of the black at Llandegla, without stopping for a break (apart from a drink splash) and didn't fall off!

My bike feels under braked now, I have a feeling it is just the limit of the Juicy 3's, the steepness, speed and my weight are too high for them on the longer descents.

All was fine, the bridge is steeper than it looks in the videos, just got the front wheel off the ground and soaked up the compression with my legs. The black drop I have been avoiding I needn't have avoided in the past as that wasn't so bad when I did it, just roll off the lip and let the back brake go.

The JJ's jumps section was OK, got off the ground there on the small kickers with a landing lip, but nearly fell off where there were two in quick sucession, landed the first then straight into the second. I just rolled the huge jumps.

I did go onto the free ride section at the end, with the 4ft drop from R0B75s videos, I took the chicken runs as I saw the huge jumps have rocks and logs in the middle, as well as being quite wide! I wasn't risking falling off on the drop offs either so chickened out there!

Endomondo buggered up and lost signal half a mile after starting which is annoying. 1 hour 33 minutes for the first time round seems like a respectable time. I only got passed by a couple of guys, and went past loads of people taking a breather/ riding the trail.

Had some lunch and did the original blue. It didn't look like anyone had ridden this for ages as there was lots of pine needles and material on the trail. Its not clear that there is another blue run, as the arrows send you onto the true blue, you have to carry on following the red to get to the original blue. Thought it was a little better than the true blue too. The two meet half way down, and met some other guys powering round, they passed me, so I joined on the back of their group. For them to then stop at the top of one of the short climbs... If you're going to hammer it, then do so all the way down!

Arrived back a big sweaty mess at the centre, learnt my lesson from last week and brought enough money for cake and a drink this time!

Rewarded!

Sounds great, I almost wish I still lived in Wigan :)

Can someone link some bike tape or whatever it's called, I recently flew down a really rocky trail and I have a few chips/scratches in the paint. I'm looking at selling it soon too!

I looked on CRC but I don't think it's the right stuff.

I swapped my Juicy 3s out after a few rides there, put a Hope M4 on the front and it was so much better, had loads more confidence in it!

Yeah you could come riding with me!

Its ~55 miles each way to Llandegla, but I wanted to do all the runs there before I go elsewhere.

I got some bike tape off ebay but it wasn't that good. The edges attracted dirt and it yellowed from the suns UV. Peeled it off and just have a battle scarred frame now by the chain. Will invest in proper chain protection on my next bike!

I have been looking at the Hope M4s, bit pricey for a whim purchase though!

ahh yeh, that looks more like it! Thanks.

Yeh I've been on google map drooling at how close all the trail centres are ... I'm about 3.5 hours from the Pyrenees and it's pretty much flat here, but about 45-60 mins from decent trails.

Do you ride alone?

Yeah, nobody to ride with at the moment, I was going to meet up with Andelusion earlier this week, but the weather put paid to that.

Would be good to meet someone local to help each other improve and save on petrol/parking fees too!

If you ever want to go to Cannock let me know as I go there most often. I'll be going back to Llandegla as soon as I can, around 85 miles each way for me, but I'd be happy to meet if you're going. I'm no speed demon and I'm far from from a skilled rider but I try most things, fail a lot :p I just try and enjoy the day.

Just picked up my first MTB in years:

It's a Decathlon Rockrider 8.1, same as Nix has. From my limited time riding it, it feels great for such an inexpensive bike; I just need to get some DMR V8s and a helmet and then I'm set to go.

I'm almost settled on a Giro Xen, any other alternatives that I should consider?

661 Recon? I tried a few on and found this was the most comfy for me and seemed to be quite highly rated, might be worth a look.

Looks like a contender too, probably going to pop down to Leisure Lakes/Evans tomorrow and try a Giro Xen, Fox Flux and 661 Recon to see which fits and feels best.

Looking forward to taking it out properly around Rivington next week.
