The main commentator on Freecaster is quite funny :) If it ever goes "mainstream" though I have a feeling they may replace him or get him to tone down some of his more "risque" analogies which would be a shame as they are class :D

I think they already have. He was really going for it at leogang, almost 1 per run. I only noticed a handful this time around. Probably for the best, as they didnt seem so funny when they were obviously thought up beforehand and forced in rather than off-the-cuff remarks.

In other news, it seems some of the 2012 Specialized Enduros are coming with the CCDB and 142x12 rear axle:

I wouldn't say they were 'coming with it' just yet.

First day of the year on my big bike at a bike park tomorrow, haven't ridden it since the start of November as below.

Hadn't been able to until now this year due to race training, I've been looking forward to this

I didn’t have a very successful weekend riding. Saturday went to the Quantocks and a mates ZTR podium rims folded (no surprise there then) so had to walk 4 miles back to Holford. 2 hours riding in total.

The Sunday evening went to our local woods for a 2/3 hour blast round. The X0 rear Frankenstein mech is no more. Ripped off the bike with the hanger. Back to the X9 :(

Anyone been to Spain for a MTB holiday? Thinking about it for Xmas. (so it's cooler).
Looking at maybe Andelucia or the Sierra Nevada (hills). Anyone?

Ordered the X.9 for my new mech, just couldnt justify the extra for X.0 again. Santa Cruz are kindly sending me a new hanger for free so thats a result considering its not part of the warrenty.

Nice tidy bike that, looks like its never been ridden. That sticker on the fork is hideous though! Yes, the BIG Rock Shox one

Ah it looks unridden as most of the bits are new (wheels, brakes, seatpost, stem, rear mech, grips, shifters), disappointed that you don't like my mid 90's Rockshox sticker though ;)

Looks like I'm heading to Laggan Wolftrax on Friday for the day :) Looking forward to it, nice facilities there by the sounds of it.

Has anyone been? Whats the riding like?

Rode Dalby red > Dixons hollow > black >Dixons hollow > green to get to next red > last red 14k trail on Sunday - lovely weather, but too hot by far!

All was good, except I think at my 2nd trip around the boardwalks at Dixons hollow I managed to stuff my rear mech up by falling off a bit, so may need a new one. :(

Did the last 14k with only about 3 gears that worked....

Got a problem, converted my 3 X 10 setup to 2 X 10 with bash guard several months ago, bike went in for its free service last week, had a phone call from my LBS saying the chain is 75% warn, this is likely due to the gearing setup for 2 X 10 and the chain being bent when using large front/large rear gear combinations.

What can I do to combat this as I tend to use all available gears for the biking I do. Im fairly novice when it comes to bike mechanics so not sure what I can do to avoid this (other than not use those gears) as it seems pointless having 20 gears if i cant use them all.

Do you honestly need to use the large front large rear combinations? You can get basically the same gears using the granny ring and smaller cogs in back.

Ive converted my bike to a 2X10 setup, so dont have the 42 tooth gear any more, its basically 24/32 on the front with 11-36 on the back. The chain is a Shimano SLX 10 speed one, not sure if that makes any difference (aren't they thinner than 9 speed chains?)

I have a question..

I've been given a mountain bike, which I want to use main on the road, I've fitted really slick tyres, new brake levels, cables and pads and a new handlebar.

My only problem is gears, it's a gripshift thing with 18 gears, and it's just pap, going down the rear gears is fine, but going up, it keeps jumping two gears at a time. I've had a read and it appears that this could just be down to cheap-ass gear changers and the fact that grip-shift is a bit rubbish(?).

Basically I want to change the lot, make it into a 21 speed (7 speed cassette), with proper gear levers (if that's what they're called), but probably using the same front gears, with just a different gear changer thing.

Are there any kits around? As all I see are loads of different individual components, and I really don't have the knowledge to put my own kit together.

Also, it's got rear suspension, I've tightened it up as much as I can, but do they do solid metal adapters to make it rigid? I could always get something machined up if not. The front shocks have seized up, which is fine!

So far I've spent £60 on bits, I wouldn't want to spend much more again, so can I get a functioning gear system for £60? I would just sperge on a road bike, but I'm meant to be saving at the moment, so I reckon £120 overall will be a fairly good bargain.

Thanks for any help:)

grip-shift is a bit rubbish

Sorry to sound like a pessimist, but even with cheap levers and a new cassette, you'll still probably find your shifting is rubbish until it's properly setup, and you might be paying £25-30 to get that done right at a bike shop.

If I were you, I'd live with it and save the money.

So long as the bike doesnt jump around while in a certain gear, then it's fine surely?
