i really dont like them they feel un natural. sram stuf is much better in my experience anyway
I've always liked them about the same. It's true the sram is probably better, but the shimano pods feel just as, if not more functional (dunno if that came out right :\), but I'll agree, STI is weired.

Well due to work, the only chance of looking around for a new bike was in Halfords tonight.

They have the Kona Shred in there for just under £500. Not a bad bike. Its more of a jump / dirt back though, which is kinda confused me to weather what kind of bike I want.

I think I might go for a Kona Shred type of bike now. I dont really do no long distance stuff. Just around town mostly going to work and messing around at weekends. Want something thats going to be durable.

A quick question is that, are Hydraulic discs a lot better than cable? I had cable ones on the Alpina. Would I see much difference.

Im in need of a bike now and was gunner get the Shred, If im honest tonight but didnt know weather to get another cable disc bike or get a hydraulic disc bike.

Whats your thoughts about the Shred?

Any suggestions on bikes like that for around £500? Links welcome ;)

Thanks.

Thanks.

Rockhopper 2006 for £550 comes with avid juicy 5, or the Giant XTC SX has the MPH which is like the Hope brakes. Both would be better than cable disc.

Hyrdaulics = win :D

Ive been riding hope mini's/C2's with 8" rotors all day and they are mighty. Not good with the "i want to send you into a tree" michelin hot S tyres though. 1metre skid at 10mph on the dirt(front wheel)

For a bit of fun i decided to fully press my Hayes Hydraulic brakes hard the other day on the pavement when i was coming home. It stopped me dead since i was on tarmac, i almost went over the top of my bike ! Never doing that again.

You can lift the back wheel flat out with my hayes.......not that you want to......but the way i ride to work with 100 minutes to go i always end up with the back wheel lifting. Scares the utter **** out of drivers though, when approaching a crossing flat out and braking on the front wheel alone. :)

Oh watch out if you have a mate who thinks its funny to press your front brake and pull away from you........not funny with an 8" hydraulic brake :(

Never mind me breaking cheap bikes. 1000 quid of frame broken. :(

Santacruz Heckler's aint meant to brake.

/cry's

Going to a local shop tomorrow after work. Hopefully they will have some nice bikes I can try out.

The Rockhopper 2006 disc is looking very nice.

notice the nipples on the spokes match the hub color lol. and dont forget the hollow pin chain :P

the brakes are possibly the best ive ever used had them on my old bike as well. bigger rotor on the rear on this. the power is immence the modulation is amazing. and the adjustment cant be beated tbh. they are also quite light
