*** Big Fat Weight Loss Thread ***

I'm guessing you wouldn't be keen on going to a class then?

Even if it was just a few as a compromise?

I just worry that part of the reason you are so sore from the yoga is incorrect positioning.

And yes, a good session will leave you sore and uncomfortable but not to the extent that you are describing.

This is something a teacher can be much better placed to help you with.

The best thing about a teacher is they can help you extend your stretches but safely and not in a way which could really injure yourself.

Are you warming up and warming down and relaxing properly afterwards too?

Coz that will make a huge difference too.

No, the last time I went to a class I was the only fella there and on my first session the instructor had me up against the wall trying to do a headstand!

As I briefly joked, Apple Fitness+ is the better option because they have three trainers on screen so you follow the one that is doing the very easiest version. Peloton doesn’t have that. So I will be swapping over very soon.

That does so pretty good to be fair!

But if you are really hurting whilst doing it, then you are also doing it wrong.
Like most gym goers, i've often exercised 'into' a bit of pain to 'work through it'

Coming up on 2 years with osteopaths, rehab, MRI scans and private consultations and my strongest simple advice i've heard over and over but previously ignored, when there is pain - stop!

The grey area is when it's a bit of DOMS and actually doing damage to yourself, it can be hard to tell the difference.

I’m back in buffet land (Cyprus this time). Not quite as many mini desserts, but gosh there’s a lot of tasty meat. Will have to do overtime in the pool to make up for it. Perhaps there’s a gym?! Will the kids let me go is the other question.

as much as i hate my job at times i also love the aspect of it using a lot of cals, i know you see al lthe time people claiming there job uses a lot of cals, but working in a supermarket RDC really is a lot of steps per shift while also lifting several ton of weight per shift aswell. also having a dog i walk twice a dog also goes towards a healthy step count, allowes me to still eat abit of crap that most wont get away with while loosing weight

I'm getting myself back into this thread. My foot still isn't right and so motivation for everything is lacking at the moment. What i really need is some hypnotherapy to get the acceptance that weight loss will likely lead to reduced injuries and i can stop going through this cycle.

I seem to have carried on my increased drinking from being in Spain too. Not so much at home. That's back to 1-2 bottles a week (shared with the wife but generally a 70/30 split), but i've been going out a lot more than i usually would. Think just trying to squeeze in seeing as many people as i can before i'm gone for good, so feels like every weekend for the last 6 weeks i've been drinking >3000kcal of booze at weekends along with bits of eating out. This then impacts my ability to get any decent endurance run/rides done. I need to get that in check because it's only going to be easier to carry on that pattern in Spain.

Been pretty good so far this week with an easy run at lunch and then some gym work at night as my wifes gone to bed quite early. Although last night a squat caused some ankle pain which i've never had before!

The main positive is i then came inside to chill out and watch TV and didn't immediately reach for toast/crumpets on either night. If i can just keep that motivation i should see some results as generally my diet is decent from 7am to about 9pm!

The other positive is my weight has remaining fairly stable, sometimes it peaks but then usually drops. If i could get through weekends without excess booze then i'm be smashing it :p

For context, i weigh myself Monday/Wednesday/Friday - The spikes are my Monday weigh ins, then it drops throughout the week, before the weekends excesses cause a spike again! The main amusement is that when the spikes are particularly big, my scales question whether it's me or another user :(

This next few weeks will be a real test, home alone without my wife casting a judgmental eye over me. I was quite impressed with myself when I did the shop for the week I didn't add any snacks into the trolley, I might have added 3 large imported beers though. However I haven't had a drink for a month so earned it right? :D

See i'm always really strong when in the supermarket. The problem is then having a local shop 2 minutes walk away for the mid week weakness!

Nearest shop is 10 minutes walk so don't have that temptation.

However, I didn't buy snacks but I bought some nice seeded rye bread which i've toasted and slathered in butter and marmite a few times around 8PM'ish.

Whoop, down under 95kg again today. Was a bit perplexed when it initially showed 96.5 as that's more than i was Wednesday and i've been really good this week, but then i stepped off and it still showed 1.7kg which is it's default for when it's been moved and calibrating.
So reset it and stood on it again for 94.8kg

As mentioned above, the weekends are the main issue for me, but the wife is out flat hunting with our son tomorrow (he only has a 2 seater car so i'm free!), as such i'm aiming for a long bike ride. Weather is looking decent :D

I'm going to start documenting my progress if nothing more than to keep me accountable.

Last weighed myself at 88.9KG but for all intents and purposes I'm going to assume my starting weight is 90KG. Plan is to get down to 80KG.

A Calculator says to aim for a deficit of 1000 calories a day. Will be using Huel for Breakfast/Lunch and then as long as my dinner is less than 900 calories I should be able to do that. That's also not including exercise which I'm going to start a training plan.

I'll be back in a week!

Please don't go for a 1000 calorie deficit off the bat, it's setting yourself up for failure. Slow and steady always wins the race with diet/weight loss.

Start with a few hundred calories deficit and then if you really feel the need to go up to a 1000, taper upwards.

I'll see how I get along. I'm quite a weird eater though so mentally being a thousand under doesn't worry me too much (though if lack of energy effects my exercise i'll eat more) For context, I basically fast every day (through choice, not for a diet) until maybe 3 or 4 sometimes later.

I know what the main culprit is for me. The munchies. I can't out cycle a bad diet and I really do have a sweet tooth. If I can just cut out the late night snacks the weight often just falls off of me.

I've had 800 cals so far today. Will try and burn 400 with a bike ride after work then have a not exactly healthy but not awful take away (Sashimi)

Just want to get down to pre-baby weight. I've taken on a dad-bod when I didn't really want one

You might be fine on a short ride like that but I know I really started to struggle to keep up with friends on the latter part of 3 to 5 hour rides when I was restricting calories (but not as drastically as 1,000 cals under!) I upped the calories and could really feel a difference.

Personally, I would agree with the others. Don't go so aggressive. I tend to think, be it physiological or psychological, the quick it comes off, the quicker it can go back on.
