*** Big Fat Weight Loss Thread ***

My 2x 30mins brisk walks per day give me 7000 steps each and over 200 Cals burned.

The the guy who asked about loose skin, I read if you are 80-100lbs overweight you stand a chance of having permanent loose/extra skin after weight loss, I was quiet near that lower end but am ok and suppose it depends on your skin elasticity and how long you were that size.

I nearly fall off the wagon last night. Filled up my supermarket trolley (online) with cakes, crisps, sandwiches, ready meals and then thought "What the hell are you doing? I ain't letting those guys at OcUK get the better of me." Emptied it all and did it again with fish, chicken, salads and veg. :p

I'm always going to be a slave to sugar but at least now I have some tools (scales, online food tracking) to fight back.

As in 7000 steps per 30 minutes walking? That feels like a lot. I always assume about 1500 steps/mile ('m tall though), but even my wife seems to average similar.

We were watching some show last night and people were saying they did 30000 steps a day. Seems crazy. I don't get that many even when i go for a 15mile run!

I had the high end Fitbit (at time only 2 did Heart Rate), and compared to App on my mobile, then again when I got new mobile so all 3 were in same margin of error (obv Fitbit but more accurate due to taking my heartrate).

I was doing 50k per day when I was losing the weight a few pages back and that is only between midday and midnight as I do work (self employed but older so not need so much hours), feet were all blisters and black/missing toenails.

Fitbit helped me loose weight but drove me crazy trying to maintain.

I am not going that walk in a few mins but will take 40mins approx. as not powerwalking, I am 6feet so stride+ I walk fast, always did.

Obv time can vary if you slow down or speed up, the distance will remain the same all that really matter is Cals as that is the important part and can vary based on speed and how much you carry (*your own weight or additional backpack).

Yeah, I was wondering how much you have to lose before you get loose skin. Maybe 10, 20kg isn't a problem. I'm just wondering what weight I need to get down to before my moobs disappear! :D

I'm a bit worried about this myself, I've lost approx 40 pounds in nearly 4 months, no signs yet (218lbs).

I'm not too old, I've read the older we get the less elastic your skin is, and obviously how big you are.

I walk past everyone, not quiet the duck look in the Olympics.

If someone fast can run 1 mile in under 4mins how can someone take as long as 15min to walk it if the higher end of brisk walking, some of the part timers/woman more chatting than walking could do it in 15mins?

I could set my Pacer app to measure the walk but that would mess my routine up for the day

I may do so on Sunday (my relax day) and post it here inc the Map Print out so time/distance/cals/stride/pace etc.

But 15 minute miles are 4mph which is a fairly fast walking speed. I think everyone would agree with that.

You suggest you do double that which would be 8mph and that’s a mile in 7.5 minutes.

That’d be a 3:30 marathon and most people can’t even run that quick.

I really do not care TBH it works for me to loose then maintain and all 3 devices (overlap of old phone+new phone plus the Flagship Fitbit at that time) were near same within margin of error.

Walking speed it about 3mph, I could certainly run 2+x as fast and in my youth (I was the school sprinter champ no doubt well into double figures) even then not fully gown or in prime.

100m runners are hitting 18mph to do it in 12 now they can do it under 10secs.

Jogging (I will never do this) is about 8mph for the avg man, I walk pass the dozy woman in lycra out jogging (well most of them and they look as if they are about to drop dead)

Of top of my head I do remember seeing about 7mph in the App when I did time it one or two times long ago.

I will stick to what I do now at my normal weight and others can stick to trying to get the weight off instead of worrying about what I am doing. ;)

I don't think speed is the important thing. We're looking at steps in a set time. 7,000 in 30 minutes is 233 a minute, or almost 4 steps a second... seriously? Maybe count steps in ten seconds, you should be doing 39 in that time to be doing 7,000 in half an hour. If I jog for 30 minutes it would be about 5,000 steps. As I think about it, I guess to 'walk' at a similar speed to me jogging (which isn't fast, probably about 7mph like you say) you would need a quicker cadence, which I suppose could mean 7,000 steps? Interesting stuff.
