*** Big Fat Weight Loss Thread ***

Never heard of these before. Can you share us some links?

This was one, i think it used to be called Yankee Bundles, benefit being free delivery over £20. 8% cashback too :)

I generally see them advertised on HDUK. Then just found this one

These are the healthy oat bars which are really filling and I think cost effective.

Certainly I've found myself hungrier these last few days when I've not had them.

I found them on amazon too and you could get 20 for £16.99.

Stalled a bit over the last week (97-98kg on the scales). Going through a dip in motivation I think. Had a very busy week with ridiculous on calls and also guests over which meant hospital fry ups, takeaway and booze.

Going to go for a long cycle tomorrow and attempt to get back on track. A couple of weeks of leave coming up will make it easier to plan meals and hopefully hit the gym.

Back into the 96’s on the scales now. Getting into the difficult stage of the process where the initial excitement has worn off and also Christmas is coming which means more opportunities for booze and sweet treats.

Dug out the skipping rope which hopefully will help a little!

Hope everyone else is getting on ok?

I'd had a few naughty days a couple of weeks back and had peaked at 15st 10 and I think of 15½ as my point to do something about it, so thought last week I'd hit it hard. Kept down around 2,000 to 2,200 most days and managed to do indoor cycling 3 evenings, got to Saturday down around 15st 7.
It can be frustrating. This quote is from three weeks ago, I got to 15st 7 on the Saturday. I've been reasonably good*, with a decent amount of cycling, but this morning I was only 15st 6...

But... this is why I weigh regularly and look at the trend more than the individual result. This is the last 3 months -

The shaded line is the actual results and the harder line is the trend. You can see those low weigh-ins at the beginning of November, but the trend was still quite high.

I think of it like -

Your Weight on Scales = (Your Actual Body Weight) + (Your variable weight)

When (Your variable weight) can be how much food you have in your, your water retention which I guess includes how hydrated you are from recent exercise etc and probably many other factors I don't know. We know the variables vary even just through the day, so we weigh at a set time each day, but there are so many other day to day variables. By looking more at the trend and having faith in that, it keeps me going. Thinking I only lost 1 lb in the last 3 weeks would make me want to quit

* tbf, I'm very aware I'm not trying really hard at this point. I've probably averaged around 2,500 calories on non exercise days, which isn't low enough to really drop the weight off. I'm trying to balance the hunger vs the calorie control.

I seem to be managing <2000 calories on a “normal” day. The problem comes when there is a nice dinner with friends, coffee out and about, drinks etc. My progress is definitely hampered by numerous cheat meals or days. I need to focus on keeping healthy choices and the long term rather than hitting a target weight by a specific date. I’m definitely going to be enjoying nice food going forwards. Logging meals and weight seems to help, but again, I don’t foresee myself doing this forever.

Weight variability is a strange thing!

This is what annoys me. I almost wish I hadn't started, I don't think I can stop now

On the graph I posted, the rise in weight from Aug to the start of Nov was when I thought "I'm going to try not logging and just eating when I'm hungry and trying to be sensible." :(

I’d been a fairly steady 98kg since moving to the Midlands and cycling more. There have been a few peaks and troughs - was cycling 100 miles a week around our wedding which helped, ate a lot of Korean chicken when I was living away in Manchester which did not!

I do worry that I slip back into bad habits without logging, but this is the longest period of sustained calorie counting that I’ve ever done and it seems to be effective. What I haven’t done this time is dramatically increase the amount of exercise that I’m doing. I’ve historically used cycling as a way of eating what I want so that might be the trade off.

@AndyCr15 - an increase of 3 lb when eating freely doesn’t seem dramatic and you’ve drifted back down with some gentle changes which is really positive! I definitely don’t automatically think about what I’m actually consuming so maybe I’ll have to be a long term logger too.

New low weight of 94.9 kg this morning. I seem to plateau then drop a kg, then plateau again. Have been consistently in the 95’s this week which is good.

On call next week which again could be tough. Just need to keep focused and not have too much takeaway!

I seem to have settled to around 222lbs without needing to be too mindful of what I'm eating, 7lbs up on my wedding low but I can live with that. Still a vast improvement on last years 260lb high.

Was out at the Liverpool Christmas markets on Sunday. Then got home with the intention of watching the England game whilst sat on my indoor bike, which would've likely worked out around 1500kcal burned.

However, the ITV app doesn't allow casting to a TV from the phone (no aerial in the shed), and so i gave up and ordered a pizza and opened a bottle of wine :D. Probably a swing of around 4000kcal!

Even though I've tried to be quite good for a month or two now, not a lot of weight seemed to move, then in the last two days, 3lbs have dropped off! Sunday is my optional kebab night, but now I'm thinking to stay good, as I feel like I need a weigh-in in the morning to verify my weight   (And I guess is why I don't just weigh myself once a week) I expect it might bounce back up a lb or so, but still, I've not weighed in this light (15 st 2.4 lbs) since May, so pleased with that, especially as we head into Xmas, when I will definitely eat all I want

I remember last year I came out of Xmas just over 16st, but managed to get down to under 15st for my cycling trip in late March. I've got the same trip in March again this year, so I figure as long as I can stay under last year through Xmas, it should be fine. Last year on this day I was 15st 13, so it's looking good at present!

Currently at around 13.75 stone - down from at least 15.5.

At first, the number of calories allowed seemed quite generous, and I wasn't sure much was even happening. It appeared that I was either breaking even or losing very slightly.

Then fast-forward about two months or so, and things started to move. Definitely better to be the tortoise when losing weight. Slow and steady wins the race, more likely to succeed, too.

Stopped measuring at 95.2kg just before Christmas. Pleased with my progress but shame I didn’t quite hit the 93kg target before the new year. Horrible lurgy has probably helped keep the weight down but there has been a LOT of cheese.

Oh well, back on the wagon soon! Cycling is going to be the key to the last bit of weight loss I think! Have definitely cemented some good eating habits over the last couple of months.
