*** Big Fat Weight Loss Thread ***

Well, the on call week on the app appears to have worked. 96.9kg today. Not sure that the wine to celebrate finishing on call will have helped all that much, but should be a little easier to control things whilst based at home.

I'd had a few naughty days a couple of weeks back and had peaked at 15st 10 and I think of 15½ as my point to do something about it, so thought last week I'd hit it hard. Kept down around 2,000 to 2,200 most days and managed to do indoor cycling 3 evenings, got to Saturday down around 15st 7.

On Saturday I had an eventful cycle, so was out from 8am to 4pm. By the time I was eating my first meal it was 5pm, so effectively I'd skipped lunch (well, had a couple of cake/coffee stops while riding). I burnt 3k calories and ate 3k calories... Sunday I woke up SOOOOO hungry I couldn't stop snacking. Then went out and rode 2k calories again around lunchtime. Sunday evening and Monday morning I still felt sooo hungry. I'm hoping today I can get back to a 2-2,200 cal day.

It's kind of annoying when you burn loads of calories you want to 'bank that saving', but at the same time, burning them does make you feel uncomfortably hungry!

I always find it's the next day too, which i try and use as a rest day so i have 1 day of burning 5000 calories and eating ~3000 and then the next i'll eat like 4000kcal but only burn 2000.

I've been useless this month. Have damaged my foot which has limited exercise in the last few weeks, and had a work thing last week which involved a huge amount of alcohol. I'd probably estimate ~7500kcal per day once you factor in all the snacking between speeches etc and alcohol.

November i've decided to actually rest my foot instead of hoping it'll just go away, so need to be much more strict on calorie intake.

Been awful month for me as well despite running more than I ever have before, I've also been eating total rubbish and ending up 4000kcals most days, burning about 3000. So gained a lovely 4kg of fat. :( And Christmas not far away either. Crap.

If anyone sees any cheap snacky foods give me a shout. The PHD Smart Bars i bought months ago following a cheap deal on HDUK have finally ran out. They worked out around 20p per bar and worked well for the odd snacks, not too nice to be moreish and end up with me eating them constantly but nice enough that it worked!

I know the NAKD bars are often available on deals too, just doesn't seem to be anything around at the moment.

Do you like KIND bars?

I'll generally eat anything, so certainly not fussy. My main criteria is cost. Whenever i look, a lot of bars like this work out around £1/bar and there's no way i'm paying that. So just look for stuff on offer and try and stock up.
The kind bars that I get from the Co-op are £1.40 for a single bar which I think is extortionate.

However, even though you pay for quality (they are mainly nuts like almonds with dark chocolate and salted caramel) you can buy them from Ocado and get 5 for £5.

I'll only buy them from the Co-op when they have them on offer for a £1 each but I think they're great.

Yeah, too much for me! I just want cheap snacks. Although a search came up with these

Depends if you're happy risking buying food from ebay :p

Actually, this is more my level

A few days ago MyProtein were selling 2 boxes of Hotel Chocolat layered protein bars for £1.68 with every order using the app, and free delivery on orders over £10. You can still get 1 box for free with every order but sadly have to spend £40 for free delivery now.

Hmm, where is your line drawn. I tend to think if I can get a decent high protein, low(ish) sugar bar for a pound or under, I'm quite happy. Grenade bars can be up over £2 each, whish is silly. Even with an Amazon subscription you're still paying around £1.50 a bar. I have a few boxes a month still as I REALLY like some of them.

I quite like Trek Salted Caramel Protein Flapjacks as I think they come in around £2 for 3 on offer reasonably often, but they're not as... lets say healthy as some of the other bars I guess. Probably better than a chocolate bar though!

There is also an oat bar with apple that I've been buying from morrisons and currently it is 2 for £1.50.

I can't remember for the life of me what they're called though.

They um, help you go to the loo which I guess is the fibre content and they're really filling.

A bar and a portion of fruit is a decent lunch for me.

I'm generally at the cheap end, for me, these bars are just something to top up calories on days where i'm likely to come in relatively low. I do have some of the Huel type stuff which serves the same purpose, but sometimes just grabbing a bar around 3pm for that afternoon lull works better for me. Not looking for anything nutritious/healthy.

The ideal is something like those Snickers Proterin bars i got a few times from Amazon. About 18 bars for a fiver. Came in just under 30p a bar and were excellent. Not seen anything like this pop up on HDUK for a while though. The benefit being they were >200kcal which worked well. I've sometimes considered the bars in supermarkets, but they're generally small and i thinkn i'd eat about 5 of them at once!
