bike riding a few times a week.

I go out for a ride 3 times a week. Only 30 mins at a time around a country park flat out, up and down. I'm knackered after.

I don't half feel better for doing it though. I really notice it when I give it a miss due to being ill or busy or inclemency ;) I only have to miss a couple and I don't sleep as well or feel as alert.

The sore arse wears off after a bit...

Padded longs then! I have a pair of bib longs and a pair of padded warmer cycling trouser type things.

Oh yeah, and when you do get some padded shorts, don't wear pants under them unless you're riding to chafe city.

I wear padded shorts with another pair of shorts over the top. Cold? Get cycling and you'll soon warm up :)

I dont understand people I see cycling to work with a fleece and hoody on. I wear a tee and a thin jacket and I am red hot after two mins.

I wear a water proof jacket with a thermal top underneath and some nike dri fit leggins with normal nike football shorts over the top of the leggins and some rockport boots, all this keeps me really warm and the dri fit dries really quick if theres any rain or splashes from puddles :)

ok this is my 2nd outing on the bike.
was a little windy.

It's good that you're using the bike and getting out there but as vonhelmet says a road bike (or even just a better mountain bike) will make a huge difference to your speed. It's nominally a full suspension bike but cheap full suspension is much more hassle than it is worth - perversely it'll probably get you fitter though since you're struggling against ineffective suspension which absorbs much of the effort you put in by bobbing around and the weight will also factor into making it more difficult than it needs to be.

If it works then keep using it until it breaks or you feel the need for something a bit lighter/faster/better. :)
